Most Comfortable Bedroom Flooring Options

Choosing your bedroom floors is an important design decision. It's where you take your first steps in the morning, and the last place your feet touch before climbing into bed each night, so you want it to be as comfortable as it can be, no?

Wall-to-Wall Carpeting & Rugs
Since carpeting is so soft underneath your feet, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the most popular options when it comes to bedrooms. Another advantage of carpet is the insulation it can provide for your space. This can help isolate your room from the outside noises, making it easier to sleep at night.

Drawback? It’s hard to keep clean. Liquid spills can stain permanently, and if you don’t vacuum regularly, dust and debris can contribute to poor indoor air quality.

Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is a great way to get the look of a hardwood floor, with the soft feel and warm insulation of carpet. You have the ability to choose the look of nearly any material, pattern, or color. In a low traffic space such as a bedroom, vinyl floors are very easy to care for (just sweep or vacuum weekly). You can even have this flooring option for up to 20 years!

Drawback? Vinyl flooring is associated with several toxic chemicals which are released into the air, making this option relatively bad for the environment.

Laminate Flooring
With laminate, you will achieve the look of hardwood, without paying the price or worrying about the maintenance upkeep (since laminate is made up of a very thin natural material).

Drawback? Laminate flooring isn’t as resilient as other flooring options. Which means when your floor starts to show signs of aging, you’ll have no other option but to remove and replace it.

At Triple S, we know how important it is to keep your floors spotless. That is why we offer several professional cleaning services including carpet and grout tile cleaning. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

5 DIY Rugs For Your Home

Having trouble finding the perfect rug for your space? There’s no need to settle, designing one yourself ensures a custom rug fit perfect for your home and budget. Let your creativity soar and create your own with one of these 5 DIY rug ideas.

5 DIY Rugs For Your Home | Textile Cleaning | Stamford | Triple S

Faux Fur Rug
You can’t beat the price of some faux fur rugs on the market these days. However, if you want to make it more unique, use a DIY method to change that nude faux to match the color scheme of the room.

Block Print Rug
This technique requires a rubber doormat (ones that have an ornate design cut out) and paint. You’ll use the rubber doormat as a stamp to make impressions on the rug. Simple and quick!

Pieced Together Rug
It can be quite a shock when people read the price sticker on a large area rug. One way to surpass those numbers is by gathering two or more smaller rugs and stitching them together to create one larger one.

Rope Rug
A fabric rope rug makes a fun addition to any room. While you’re crafting, make sure you have plenty of room available and time! All the fabric twisting can make this DIY job rather labor intensive! But the end result is totally worth it!

Upholstery Rug
If you’re looking for the perfect rug to match your curtains or drapes, why not put your upholstery on the floor! That’s right, you can turn any heavy-duty upholstery fabric into a fabulous area rug!

At Triple S, we offer professional cleaning services, including rug, carpet, upholstery, and tile cleaning. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

Best Upholstery Choices For Pet Owners

Attention all pet lovers — there’s a secret to creating a pet-friendly home — choosing the right upholstery. Yes, we said it. The fabric and upholstery in your home is the first to fall victim to your pet’s claw marks, hair loss, and other stains. Since it’s impossible to fence off every area from your pets, choose one of these fabric choices instead.

Best Upholstery Choices For Pet Owners | Upholstery Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

Best Upholstery Choices For Pet Owners

Sure, training your pet is important, but why not take an extra step to make things even easier? Select an upholstery fabric with a tight weave, since fabrics with extra texture can get caught in your pet’s claws. Also, stay away from light colors! When you own a pet, your entire home becomes a heave-usage area!

Leather - This is one of the best options for a pet-friendly home! It’s long-lasting and the material actually improves with age and use, which means the more cat naps, the better! And you don’t have to worry about all that hair loss, pet hair can easily be removed because it won’t cling to the leather. However it is more possible for your pet to leave scratch marks or holes in leather.

Microfiber - The second runner up to leather is microfiber, a synthetic fabric. Microfiber is also easy to clean and maintain, just make sure you blot most of the mess with a clean towel, then a little soap and water. Another advantage? There are no loops in the fabric, so your pet’s claws won’t get caught

You can clean leather or microfiber yourself, but if it’s too damaged, a professional can have it cleaned in no time!

Don't Make These 5 Design Mistakes!

Rooms inside your home are set up pretty simple — a dining room is for eating, a bedroom is for sleeping, and so on. When it comes to designing your outdoor space, things can get a bit more complicated.

1. Don’t ignore the rules of design! How you approach decorating your outdoor space is entirely up to you, but when it comes to designing, there are a few rules to follow.

  • First, establish a focal point — this will help guide people towards the right points of interest around the room.
  • Second, take advantage of vertical space. Use urns, raised planters, or even vases with tall grass or espaliered shrubs.
  • Lastly, take your home into consideration. The colors, patterns, and “feel” of the exterior of your home should be mimicked in your outdoor space as well.

2. Don’t forget that you’re outdoors. Some people can get very carried away when it comes to furnishing their outdoor space. Adding large sofas and coffee tables is not what your space is looking for. When decorating your outdoor space, try to be as minimalist as possible — in this case, less really is more.

3. Don’t forget to add plants! You may think that there’s enough green outside, but you should add more to the trees in your backyard. Plants can help soften the area, so try adding potted plants, patio trees, a dish garden, or even a vase of flowers.

4. Don’t just place your furniture anywhere. Think about the seating arrangement you have placed inside your home. We usually add tables and chairs in a certain way to help create a flow of conversation — and accessibility!

5. Don’t overload with different colors. Much of the outdoor furniture you’ll be seeing comes in white, tan, beige, or other neutral colors. This works in your favor because you can add a few decorative pillows or throws for a pop of color without ‘overdoing’ it.

At Triple S, we know it’s important to preserve the look of your furniture. That is why we offer patio and boat cushion storage and cleaning for the winter season! As part of this service, we will pick up your cushions, clean, store, and return them looking better than ever! To learn more about our free winter storage, visit us on the web.

How To Pack Your Home And Move More Efficiently

Overtime, our home collects an array of personal items. Whether it’s seasonal rugs for the floors, paintings on the walls, or a large collection of coffee table books. So, when it comes to moving, packing up your stuff requires way more than just one or two boxes. Here are a five ways to pack your home and move more efficiently.

How To Pack Your Home And Move More Efficiently | Stamford | Carpet Cleaning | Triple S

1. The more moving boxes, the merrier.
Moving is a lot easier when you have different sized boxes to put all of your belongings in. Pack heavier items on the bottom — no box should weigh less than 50 pounds.

2. Stuff boxes with extra belongings.
Items such as socks, scarves, pillow cases, and other small fabric items can fill small gaps (and even prevent the chance of items breaking).

3. Keep your clothing in your dresser.
Your dresser can be used like your moving boxes, so take advantage! Just remember to tape the drawers shut with adhesive that won’t destroy the wood or paint.

4. Keep tools for reassembly in a separate box.
Make sure all of the tools are clearly labeled and accounted for. There’s nothing worse than trying to get a good nights rest without a bed because you can’t remember where you put the screwdriver!

5. Do NOT used standard garbage bags.
While standard garbage bags take up less space, they also rip and tear easily. If you’re going to throw items in bags, we suggest buying a heavy duty brand.

Another quick tip — don’t forget to get your carpet and upholstery cleaned either before or after your move! For professional help, call the textile experts at Triple S! Should You Buy Carpet Remnant?

In a previous post, we gave a few reasons why you should buy carpet for your home. But, what about carpet remnants? Remnants are smaller pieces of carpet, rolled up and sold “as is” (and usually at a discounted price!). But, is it really worth the deal?

Should You Buy Carpet Remnant? | Textile Cleaning | Stamford | Triple S

Where Do Carpet Remnants Come From?
Despite popular belief, remnants are not left-over pieces of broadloom from a carpet installation. In truth, remnants come from the ends of the large rolls of carpet in stock in stores. Once a roll has only a few feet left (usually around 20 feet or less) the store staff will roll up what’s left and mark it for sale as remnant.

Pros of Buying Carpet Remnants
Buying remnants allows you to save big on carpet since they’re almost always discounted from the carpet’s original price. Another advantage? Shopping for remnants is a huge convenience, since there’s no wait time for special orders!

Cons of Buying Carpet Remnants
One major drawback of buying carpet remnants is the selection — or rather, lack thereof. If you’re looking for a specific style of carpet, in a specific color, you may have to do a little digging first. Even if you’re flexible in those areas, finding the right size for your room can be a struggle as well.

If you can find a remnant in a size, style, and color suitable for your home, they’re a great flooring option to consider! Whether you have area rugs or wall-to-wall carpets in your home, the textile specialists at Triple S can help with our professional cleaning services!

Understanding The Fabric Cleanability Code

Making a mess in your home is bound to happen. And more than likely, your carpet or furniture are the first to surrender. However, there's an easy fix — and it's made up of three letters — W, X, and S.

Understanding The Fabric Cleanability Code | Carpet Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

Code “W”
Code “W” is used on fabrics that should be spot-cleaned with water-based cleaning agents only. It’s also best to apply the product with a soft brush (so you don’t damage the fabric) in a circular motion, and vacuum dry.

Code “X”
You should only clean fabric with code “X” by vacuuming or gently brushing the fabric. Do not use any cleaning agents at all. Any cleaning product, whether it’s water or solvent based, may cause staining, shrinkage, or distortion of the fabric.

Code “S”
Fabrics with the code “S” cleanability code should be cleaned with a milk water-free cleaning solvent or dry cleaning product. If cleaning with code “S,” be sure to do so in a ventilated room!

Cleaning Steps to Follow:
• Always check the code before deciding how to clean your fabric.
• It’s best to test-clean products in a small area first to test for color bleeding or fabric shrinkage.
• When a liquid is spilled, blot as much as possible. Sometimes, no further cleaning is necessary!
• If the troubled spot becomes worse, hire a professional to get the job done right.

Beat The Heat With Your Curtains And Blinds

We all know that feeling — walking into your air conditioned home on a blistering hot, summer day. However, that blissful feeling will soon go away once you receive your utility bill. Luckily, we have a few ways to reduce heat gain in your home by up to 77 percent, without running your AC!

Beat The Heat With Your Curtains And Blinds | Valence Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

Awnings. Awning are one of the best ways to block the sun from your home. According to the DOE, you can reduce up to 65 percent of heat gain on south-facing windows and 75 percent on west-facing windows.

Curtains. On hot summer days, it’s best to keep your curtains closed. Hang your curtains as close to your windows as possible and use medium-colored fabric for the best results.

Shades. When properly installed, shades are one of the most effective ways to save energy — but, they need to be drawn all day in order to work. Tip: Quilted roller shades and Roman shades work better than other soft window treatments.

Blinds. Unlike shades, you can adjust the slates of blinds to control light and ventilation. The DOE has found that “when completely closed, highly reflective blinds can reduce heat gain by around 45 percent.”
