How To Keep Your Home Spotless In The Fall

Our first fall cleaning series was all about getting your carpet ready for the new season. Here are four more tips to get your entire home in tip-top shape during the long, cold months.

Clean the Furnace

Your furnace works hard during the winter months, which means it accumulates a lot of dust and dirt. Change the filter at least once a month so your furnace blows out clean air (this will also lower your utility bills - win-win!).

Keep the Kitchen Clean

Try and get into the habit of wiping down your countertops and clearing your sink of dirty dishes. Food, sticky hands, and dirty dishes all contribute to the spread of germs in the kitchen (which is also the most used room in your home).

Leave Shoes at the Door

It's time to adopt the no shoes on in the house policy. Keep a bin by your front or rear door to ensure people are following your new house rule. This keeps the dirt and grime from the bottom of your shoes off the floors throughout your home.

Hire Triple S Carpet, Rug, Drapery, & Upholstery Cleaners

In addition to the tips mentioned above, having your carpets, drapery, and upholstery regularly cleaned by a professional can drastically reduce any allergens present in your home. Plus, at Triple S, all of our personnel are IICRC certified technicians that have been thoroughly trained in their professions — providing you with the latest cleaning methods and techniques.

How to Properly Store and Maintain Outdoor Furniture

The temps are slowly dropping, which means autumn is in full swing! But is your outdoor space ready for the ice and snow that follows? From prepping your lawn to keeping your deck clear, here are the important tasks you’ll need to complete before this season is over:

Metal Furniture

  • Wash all surfaces with water and detergent. Scrub and rinse with a hose.
  • Apply a thin, protective coat of car wax to all surfaces.

Wicker Furniture
  • Use a bleach-and-water solution to clean and remove mildew. Rinse with a fine spray from a garden hose and dry thoroughly.
  • Store wicker furniture in a dry place and on blocks to keep it off the floor or ground.

Fabric Cushions and Other Fabrics
  • Wash any cloth or rope materials, like hammocks, with laundry detergent; dry, fold, and store indoors.
  • Clean umbrella fabric with mild detergent. Dry in an open position and store in a closed position.
  • If any patio furniture have removable covers, clean them with a little bleach if the label allows — this will help kill any mildew.
  • Once dried, apply the covers and stack the cushions loosely in a clean, dry space off the floor.

Store your Cushions with Triple S
  • Leave the fabric on the cushions, bring them to one of our THREE locations. Or better yet, we can pick them up and delivery them to you!
  • Our certified staff will thoroughly hand clean, and remove and spills, spots, or stains.
  • We will apply our ProSeal Fabric Protector to help keep fabric water resistant and prevent future stains.
  • Our last step is our Antimicrobial Treatment, which helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and eliminates mildew on face fibers.

Triple S offers seasonal patio and boat cushion cleaning to keep your outdoor furnishings protected for next spring. As part of this service, we will pick up your cushions, clean, store, and return them looking better than ever! To learn more about our free winter storage going on now, visit us on the web.

5 Things You Should Never Vacuum

Your vacuum is the most versatile tool in your cleaning toolbox. While your vacuum can clean up most messes, not everything should get a quick back-and-forth.

5 Things You Should Never Vacuum

  1. Large pieces of glass.
Big pieces of broken glass can puncture the bag, get lodged in the hose, or scratch up the inside of your vacuum. Use a broom instead!

  1. Fine dust.
Fine dust will clog filters or the vacuum bag right away, and then the machine might begin spewing the dust right back into the air. No thanks!

  1. Wet food (or anything moist).
Vacuum cleaners aren’t designed to pick up anything wet, whether it's soggy cereal, wet pet food, or even a spill. Paper towels get the job done best.

  1. Fireplace ashes.
These ashes trap heat (and are also fine particles) so don’t suck them up as you clean. Let the ashes cool — for four days to be exact — then use a wet/dry vacuum to clean the area.

  1. Coins, paper clips, or other small items.
These items typically get lost in our furniture or on the floor. It may be tempting, but don’t roll over them with your vacuum — they can break pieces inside.

At Triple S, we know how important it is to keep your floors spotless. That is why we offer several professional cleaning services including carpet and grout tile cleaning. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.
