5 Ways To Create More Visual Space

We can’t all be fortunate to live in a mansion on the hills. Sometimes, we have to opt for a more smaller space — bedroom and kitchen in one room? We’ll take what we can get! But, no matter where you live, creating more visual space for your nest is never a bad idea. Here are 5 ways you can make your abode appear that much more bigger.

5 Ways To Create More Visual Space | Carpet Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

Low furniture. Big furniture is a definite way to cramp up your space. Your best bet is to avoid larger pieces while you shop at all costs. Be on the lookout for furniture lower to the ground — this will make your ceilings appear taller, in turn making your space seem larger.

Mirrors. Mirrors function in the same way windows do, making rooms look bigger, larger, and more open — so use ‘em in abundance! Also something to keep in mind, the bigger the mirror, the bigger your space will appear.

High curtains. You don’t have to have large windows for this trick. Rather than placing your curtain rods directly above the window, install them closer to the ceiling. Also, make sure to keep your curtains light and flowy.

Lights. Add light, lots and lots of lot! Whether it be natural or artificial, three’s never a thing as too much.

Organize. If you skipped this year's spring cleaning, there’s always summer cleaning, right? Once you clear out your things, consider installing some open-shelving. This will make your space look more open while feeling organized at the same time.

4 Tips For Buying Used Rugs

Are you someone who likes to be unique? Does your home have to reflect your one-of-a-kind personality? Try heading to an antique store, garage sale, or even online for a used rug! Many rugs can be heirloom pieces, handed down from generation to generation. But before you buy, keep these helpful tips in mind.

4 Tips For Buying Used Rugs | Carpet Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

1. Look for obvious signs of distress. Used rugs that have been in high-traffic areas can show signs of fading and thinning. When on the hunt, it’s a good idea to take some time to look for any stains or other issues. And if you're buying a used rug online, you can always ask to see photos to determine the quality!

2. Don’t be afraid of a little wear and tear. It’s not always a bad thing if the rug has been used a little, after all you are searching for a used rug. Used oriental rugs are often coveted for their age, and many consumers find them more elegant when they’re worn down.

3. Look for high-quality fibers. The best, higher-quality rugs are always made of natural fibers. Natural fibers consist of wool, silk, and cotton. They are far stronger and durable, making them the best choice for longevity.

4. Figure out your budget. Not only should you figure out the dimensions of the rug you want before shopping, you should also factor in your pricing guide. For instance, if you’re buying a rug for your living room, you should keep in mind that the rug will be larger so it will cost more money. Set your price point and add 10% to give yourself a little flexibility.

If you’re a homeowner looking to sell an old rug, check out RugAppraiser -- a site run by Allen Kosub, who’s an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers.

Tips For Buying Outdoor Furniture

It’s important to make your home's decor fit your style, budget, and lifestyle. Well with summer almost here, now your backyard is calling for your expertise. Before you rush outside to update your outdoor living space, here are some things to take into consideration.

Tips For Buying Outdoor Furniture | Carpet Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S |

Consider the weather. Is the weather in your area hot and dry, or cool and moist? Do you live near the coast, or more inland? While wicker can’t withstand exposure to moisture, some wood materials may splinter and crack in hot and dry conditions — so, It’s important to factor your weather conditions in.

Measure your space. Keep in mind how much room you have and how it’s shaped. For instance, for a small space, a bar table may work better than a regular dining set. Just like inside your home, make sure you have enough room for people to walk around comfortably.

Determine the placement. Will you be adding furniture underneath your overhead covering? Will you place some tables and chairs on the grass? This will help you decide which materials are a good match given their surroundings.

Factor in storage space. Once the summer is over, you don’t want the Northeast winters to wreak havoc on your outdoor furniture. With that being said, be sure to store your tables, swings, chairs, and your patio cushions as well!

At Triple S, we know it’s important to preserve the look of your furniture. That is why we offer patio and boat cushion storage and cleaning for the winter season! As part of this service, we will pick up your cushions, clean, store, and return them looking better than ever! To learn more about our free winter storage, visit us on the web.

All About Triexta PTT Carpet Fiber

In the market for some new carpet? If so, you may have heard about triexta — the newest fiber in the carpeting industry. But, what exactly is this new material? And is it the right fit for your home?

All About Triexta PTT Carpet Fiber | Carpet Cleaners | CT | Triple S |

PTT
Polytrimethylene terephthalate, or Triexta (PTT), was invented by DuPont, the same company responsible for the invention of nylon fiber. Originally, triexta was defined as polyester (PET) because it shares the same root chemical. However, the final product differs significantly so the new generic term became PTT.

Characteristics of Triexta
  • Triexta has a more matte finish, making its appearance look more similar  to nylon than to polyester.
  • Due to triexta’s hydrophobic fiber, it’s naturally stain resistant — no stain removal necessary, only water!
  • Direct exposure to sunlight and UV rays will not cause discoloration of the fiber.
  • For stain protection, no chemicals are added to the fiber, making triexta notably softer compared to polyester and nylon.
  • One of the most appealing aspects of triexta is that it can be environmentally-friendly. By replacing petroleum with corn glucose during production, fewer chemicals are put into the fiber, which means less VOCs transferred into the air.

Triexta is relatively new in the carpet world, but with its soft and durable fiber, it could be the carpet fiber of the future. For the freshest carpets, call the experts at Triple S! We have the tools, equipment, and knowledge to help you make your carpets and upholstery look Clean, Fresh, & Bright again! We are a family-owned business with over 50 years of experience.

How To Give Your Backyard Personality

Is your home ready for all that the summer season has to offer? If not, we have one suggestion  — it’s time to move your indoor space, outdoors. Here’s how to add a little comfort and style to your backyard for the next few months.

How To Give Your Backyard Personality | Upholstery Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Add a deck or patio. If you don’t already have one, this addition will not only be visually appealing, but it’s also perfect for you to host BBQ's or other casual outdoor gatherings.

Refurnish the patio or sunroom. Creating a relaxing space is all about the right furniture. If your budget doesn’t allow for a large sectional, you can bring in wicker or Adirondack chairs. Don’t forget to top it all off with plenty of seasonal pillows and throws.

Layer in greenery. Bring in plants (planters, hanging baskets, flowering vines) and shrubs to enhance the areas look and feel. When planning your design, you should take into consideration your local climate as well as your soil conditions.

Be creative with lighting. Use different types of lighting throughout your backyard. Bright lights are best when you’re cooking,, but accent lamps or ground-based lighting can help when you’re lounging in the yard.

At Triple S, we are dedicated to keeping your home Clean Fresh & Bright through all four seasons! Our textile experts have all the tools and experience you could need when looking for an upholstery and carpet cleaning company. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.
