Area Rug Do's and Dont's

Want to enhance your living area’s design? Choosing the right area rug can make all the difference! But from material to color and even texture, there are plenty of area rugs to choose from. So how do you scope out the perfect selection? Before you start shopping for one, here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

DO choose right size
You don’t want a rug that’s too small nor too large. Think of your furniture as a rule of measurement when shopping for your rug. For example, size up the area rug properly to your furniture by selecting a rug that fits just under the front legs of the sofa. However, there are many other ways to style your rug. Click here to learn about other options.

DO choose furniture before rugs
Not only will choosing your furniture first help you find the right fit, but it will also act as a canvas for the rest of your space, and that includes your rug. You want your textiles to compliment your furniture, so pick the area rug last. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to switch up the rug seasonally if you prefer.

DON'T break the bank
A beautiful rug doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Set a budget for yourself and stick to it- the less money you spend on a rug, the more cash you have to spend on a possible secondary rug or other home decor items that will tie the room together.

DON'T shy away from creativity
When it comes to decorating, don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns. For instance, choose a geometric print rug and an animal print arm chair. Keep the colors complimentary, but that doesn’t mean you need to stay too close inside the lines.

Do you have an area rug at home that you love but needs a little cleaning up? Call the textile experts at Triple S! We are your source for top notch professional cleaning services. Prep Your Home for a Holiday Party

The lyrics from that classic holiday song: "There’s no place like home for the holidays" - they couldn’t be any more true! If you’re staying home for the holiday season and preparing for an upcoming holiday party, make your guests feel extra welcome by keeping these cleaning and organizing tips in mind:

Make it sparkle.
Make your home sparkle from top to bottom! This means wipe down your countertops and floors (and vacuum your rugs). Rule of thumb is to give yourself about 10 minutes per room. But even if you do a quick run through, you will notice that your home will look more ready for your gathering. Just be careful not to test any new cleaning chemicals if you're prepping last minute, or at least test these chemicals in one small spot first to avoid doing more harm than good.

Get rid of clutter.
From piles of mail in the kitchen or beauty products in the bathroom, put all of these items away. The less clutter you have sitting out, the more room you’ll create for guests, cooking, and your holiday feast!

Check the lights.
Not just your holiday lights! Check the bulbs at your front porch and side table lamps to make sure your house doesn’t go dark during your gathering! Even if a bulb doesn’t look dim, it helps to change it anyway - especially if you know it’s been awhile since you changed it last.

Set up a welcome mat.
With the number of guests you’ll be expecting, make sure you have a place for them to kick off their shoes. This will keep dirt out of the house so you have less of a mess to clean up later on. Also, be sure there are plenty of coat hangers as well as extra space for their bags and other belongings.

At Triple S, our expert carpet and upholstery cleaners are ready to help you with any last minute cleaning you may need in the home! Visit our website for more information about our services. We have three main plant locations:

How to Get Ready for Holiday Guests

Friends and relatives visiting for the holidays? Make them feel right at home by preparing your home ahead of time. Below is a checklist to get every room ready in the house, from the guest bedroom to the bathroom:

Provide extra linens.
Make sure your guests have everything they need, including extra bath and hand towels. It also helps to collect toiletries and place them in easy-to-find spots so they don’t need to come to you every time they need a favor.

Clear out the closets.
Provide your holiday guests with additional closet space - just enough for them to unpack their belongings. Go the extra mile by clearing out a few shelves so they can fold their clothes and place shoes in an organized fashion - they’ll be so grateful you did.

Offer magazines and books.
Whether it’s jet lag or homesickness, sometimes your guests might have trouble sleeping. Place a few books, magazines, newspapers, and even local maps on their nightstand so they can do some light reading to help put their mind and body at ease.

Write down emergency information.
There may be times when you’re not home and your friends or relatives need essential details about the house and neighborhood. Jot down a list of necessary phone numbers. security codes, and other relevant household information so that they can make themselves feel at home without you needing to be there.

Dust the floors.
Don’t let your guests suffer from breathing in too much dirt and dust. Vacuum your carpets and drapery, and wipe down your tiles too! You want your home to be spotless upon your guests’ arrival and want them to feel 100 percent comfortable. So clean your house the way you would want your loved ones to do the same for you.

2016 Top Flooring Trends

Thinking about remodeling your home for the New Year? If so, be sure to add flooring to your checklist! When you dig up that old carpet, you might realize that your floors need some major updating.

First impressions are lasting impressions, so choosing the right floor is crucial! Check out some of the latest, most beautiful top flooring trends that are in high demand for 2016:

Wide Planks. You can expect to see a growing number of homes with long, wide planks in the home. With the latest technology and engineering, this flooring product provides more stability that will last for many years.

Light Wood. For a while, traditional dark wood flooring was a popular trend, but now that the economy is starting to improve, lighter tones are in higher demand. For example, driftwood is a trending choice, especially for beach-front inspired homes.

Gray. Currently, gray flooring is taking over the market as opposed to dark wood. This especially works well in a home that has a minimal look or modern Scandinavian style. There are plenty of flooring options available in gray, such as laminate and vinyl.

Reclaimed. Many homeowners are jumping on the Green bandwagon by going all natural in the home. But not only is reclaimed wood eco-friendly - it’s also one of the top flooring trends for 2016. Why? Because using old, reclaimed wood adds characters and tells a history of where the wood originally came from.

If finding a new flooring solution is your goal before the New Year, then consider these four popular options. When you find the perfect new floor for your home, be sure to keep it clean! At Triple S, we offer you the skills and experience to take care of any and all of your floors. To learn more about our services, give us a call at 203-847-8000 or visit our website.

Step 2. Mix one teaspoonful of white neutral detergent with a cup of lukewarm water.

Step 3. Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half cup of water.

Step 4. Mix one-third cup of white household vinegar with two-thirds cup of water.

Step 5. Mix a solution of powdered enzyme laundry detergent following label or box directions. Allow the solution to remain on the stain for the length of time recommended by the manufacturer.

Carpet or Hardwood: Which Do You Prefer?

If you’re on the fence between installing new wood floors or new carpeting in your home, there are plenty of factors to take into consideration. Like any other home decor element, hardwood and carpet both have their pros and cons. That being said, below are a few things to consider before making your decision:

Carpet

Comfy - There’s almost no better feeling than coming home, kicking your shoes off, and feeling soft, plush fabric beneath your feet. So if ultimate comfort is what you’re looking for, then carpet might be the right choice for you.

Soundproof - Another perk of installing carpet in your home is that it is on the quiet side. This is especially important if you have a multi-level house. That way, you won’t hear the loud sound coming from the floor above or disturb anyone in the home. And the more plush the carpeting, the more soundproof it will most likely be.

Safety for children - Do you have a growing family? If so, you might want to consider installing carpet instead of wood. Why? Well, essentially carpet provides cushion to protect feet, arms, and legs from being injured as they might on hardwood. This is especially crucial to consider if you have infants at home, as they will be more protected while learning to walk.

Hardwood

Hypoallergenic - The greatest benefit of hardwood flooring is that is doesn’t carry around much dust and allergens. However, like any other part of your home, it must be regularly cleaned and maintained to provide your home with the best hypoallergenic quality.

Low maintenance - Hardwood can generally be more low maintenance than carpet. What we mean by that is that it can be easier to grab dirt and crumbs off wood using a damp cloth or the proper vacuum tools.

Eco-friendly - Another perk of hardwood is that there are plenty of eco-friendly options from which to choose, such as bamboo and cork. Ask your local flooring company about recycled or reclaimed sources that can help you install beautiful floors while helping the environment.

5 Simple Ways to Liven Up Your Living Room

Tired of spending time in a dull living room? If you’re looking to freshen up your space (especially with the holidays approaching), we’ve got your tips here! Redecorating doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Here are simple and affordable ways you can turn your living room into an oasis:

Accent Colors. If your walls and carpet are white, why not spice things up by adding accent colors? Whether it be pillows, wall decor, or an accent chair, splashes of color are a sure way to raise your spirits (and your guests’ too)!

Open Space. Sometimes your furniture isn’t set up in the best layout. In fact, finding a layout that opens up the space more is another way you can liven up your living room. Why? Because when you have more space, you have more room to breathe and move around.

Earthy Textures. Bring the outdoors inside by adding a jute area rug or an armchair with wooden legs. Both of these options can bring an earthy vibe to your home, making the space more lively and boost your mood.

Natural Light.
While heavy drapery can create a cozy feel during the winter months, it also blocks out natural sunlight. And the more natural light you let into your home, the more happy and healthy you will feel.

Clean it up. Oftentimes, clutter can make you feel cramped in your home. Especially if your living area is the place where you entertain the most, be sure to keep it clean. That means, get rid of clutter and vacuum up dirt and allergens often.

Need a deep cleaning to help liven up your living room? We can help you with that! At Triple S, we offer several cleaning services to keep you home looking and feeling its freshest! To learn more, give us a call at 203-847-8000 or visit our website.

Decorating for the Holidays

You know that classic song: “There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays” - especially when you decorate! You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to make your home feel festive. Below are five versatile ways to spruce up your living space for the season:

Decorate the door - Whether you hang up a sign or a holiday wreath, there are plenty of ways to show you're in the holiday spirit. Tip: When you choose neutral, metallic, or bronze colors, you can keep that decoration up way past the holidays!

Customize it - Show your holiday colors by adding some unique decorations, such as a Christmas tree or a Menorah. Customizing your space with these festive symbols is a sure way to get you in the spirit this month and carry on traditions!

Switch up bedding & pillows - Want a simple way to transform your home for the holidays? Swap out your summer and fall accessories for different colors, like red, orange, or even metallic. The warmer the colors, the more you’ll want to stay in and cuddle up, and so will your guests!

Add scented candles - Aside from the aesthetics of your home, the aroma you create can also spruce things up. With a mix of pine and cinnamon, you’ll feel like everyday is a holiday this month upon walking through the front door!

Put down a welcome mat - Welcome friends and family with a front door mat with a festive quote and design. Might we also mention, this is a great way to keep your carpets clean throughout the house.

Advantages of Oriental & Area Rug Cleaning

As beautiful as your oriental and area rugs are, they need a good cleaning just like your other home textiles! While vacuuming is a good tactic to clean up noticeable dirt and crumbs, every so often your carpets will need to be cared for by a professional. And that’s where Triple S comes in!

When you choose an oriental and area rug cleaning at one of our plant locations, here are just a few of the advantages you will receive:

Sit back and relax - Don’t break your back trying to scrub away those (almost) impossible stains. Professional cleaners have the tools and expertise to clean as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Double-sided cleaning - With a professional rug cleaning, your area rugs will be cleaned completely and thoroughly! Only with Triple S in-plant cleaning, will you receive double-sided cleaning to get rid of all stubborn stains, dirt, and contaminants.

Save time - When you have your rugs professionally cleaned, you won’t have to search for all your cleaning equipment or worry about all that extra time figuring which solutions to use.

Improve air quality - Vacuuming regularly will only get rid of surface dirt and dust. But what about those deeper carpet fibers? It’s easy for dust and allergens to get caught down there, so hiring a professional to clean your rugs can take care of that, deeply removing dirt from the bottom layers of your textiles.

When you choose Triple S for your expert oriental and area rug cleaning, yours will be individually inspected and tested to determine the proper cleaning method required. Our unique technology removes all that everyday soil, as well as those occasional spills, spots, dust, and unhealthy allergens that penetrate the deep layers of your carpet. Plus, we will pick up and deliver them back Clean, Fresh and Bright!
