Brighten Up Your Rugs

The holiday season means fun with family, celebrating with friends, and hosting countless parties. Unfortunately, all that celebrating could also be a recipe for disaster for your carpet or rug. Spilled drinks, dropped food, and increased foot traffic could leave your rug with more stains than usual. Thankfully, there is a way to remedy even the toughest holiday stains. Keep our spot removal tips in mind to keep your home clean during the holidays.

Common Holiday Stains:
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy
  • Sticky fudge
  • Holiday punch
  • Wine
  • Coffee

To prevent permanent stains, follow these basic rules for spills and spot removal:

  1. Immediately blot up spills using a clean white absorbent material (tissues, napkins, towels, etc.)
  2. Pretest spot removal formulas in an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Put a few drops of formula on each color in the textile and, using your white-absorbent material, hold it against each color, count to ten, then examine the results. If the dye has bled into the absorbent material, or if there has been a change in the colored area, call a professional ASCR member cleaner for advice.
  3. Do not over wet. Work with small amounts of formulas and blot frequently. Problems result from using large amounts. Blot – do not rub or brush. Excessive agitation may cause unsightly distortion which may be permanent.
  4. Work from the outer edge toward the center of the stain.
  5. Have patience – some stains respond slowly.
  6. Remember, haphazard attempts at spot removal may result in indelible stains and/or permanent damage to fabrics.

Follow our spot removal method on our website to find out how to get rid of any pesky stain your home may encounter.

Some stains require special professional care. If the stain is not removed by a prescribed household method, consult a professional cleaner. Triple S offers carpet, upholstery, window treatment cleaning, and more! With our help, we will keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

#MerryAndBright: Stress-Free Ways to Prep Your Home for a Holiday Party

Let’s face it - the holiday season is the most stressful season of them all. With all the cleaning, shopping, cooking, and prepping that goes into planning a great holiday party, anyone is bound to feel the pressure at some point. That is, unless they know the secret to a stress-free plan:

Make a List: The number one way to create a stress-free holiday is to create a list. On this list, prioritize what you need to take care of - cleaning, cooking, gift-buying - make the list as long as it needs to be. The most important thing is that you’ll find yourself more organized.

Cook ahead:
When you leave the soups, meats, and desserts to the last minute, it would cause anyone to stress. Instead, break up your menu. Made the desserts a few days ahead (so as long as they stay fresh). The same goes for your soup - which at times you’ll find have more flavor after a day or two.

Stock up: Grocery and liquor stores can sell out quick around the holidays season. When it comes to soda, cider, wine, as cheese and crackers, purchase these ahead of time so you don’t panic at the last minute as your run around to every store.

Tidy Up a Bit: The holiday isn’t a time for a messy house. By keeping the home tidy by picking up after yourself and scrubbing a little every day, you’ll save yourself the aggravation of having to do a big cleaning just hours before guests arrive.

Need a helping hand preparing for your holiday party? At Triple S, we offer carpet, upholstery, window treatment cleaning, and more to take some of the stress off your shoulders. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

#MerryAndBright: 7 Easy Steps to a Clean Home for the Holidays

Cleaning for the holidays can be stressful, especially when you leave everything till the last minute. If you break it down a bit, all you need are a few minutes for a couple of days before your party. You can even get started today:

 Day 1: Walk Through
Take a quick walk through your home as if you’re the guest. Anything sore on the eyes should go.

Day 2: Wash Windows
On a cloudy afternoon or in the evening, wash your windows and vacuum the screens to get rid of dust and smears.

Day 3: Deep Clean Bathrooms
Do you have any guests staying over? Make the space feel like home for them by clearing out medicine cabinets and scrubbing the floors. Remove clutter and add essentials they’ll need such as linens, fresh soap, and hand lotion.

Day 4: Clean the Kitchen

After the bathroom, tackle the kitchen by cleaning your stove top, countertops, and cabinets.

Day 5: Straighten Up the Closet
Straighten up the coat closet and make room for guest coats. Hang extra hangers just in case.

Day 6: Clear the Entryway

First impressions matter. So put down a new, festive door mat, polish the doorknob, hang the wreath, and sweep the entryway clean.

Day 7: Touch Up and Plan

The party is now days away - make those last minute touch ups and plan how you will set the table and what you will prepare come your holiday dinner.

#MerryAndBright: Decorate With White

‘Tis the season of giving, celebrating, and our favorite - decorating.

Are you looking to deck the halls? It reminds us of  that classic song, Walking In A Winter Wonderland. Your home should be merry and bright, which has us thinking about ways in which you can decorate your home with elements of white for the holiday season. Here are a few of our favorite ideas to get you in the spirit:

 White & Gold Tree
Let’s start with the most fundamental home element of all - the holiday tree. Start with your basic fir or pine for a fresh organic look. Then grab the gold garland, pearls, white lights, and crystal ornaments. You want your tree to look brightest.

White Mantle
When it comes to hanging stockings, swap out you traditional red for white. Carry elements from your tree to your mantle too by hanging some garland and lights. You can hang a silver, gold, and white jingle bell wreath too.

Decked Out Shelf
Reindeer, stars snowflakes, and mini trees - whatever holiday pieces come to mind, be sure to find them in white or a neutral color that keeps the room feeling cheery.

The Rug
Whether you decide to layer on a rug or switch it up all together choose a textile that is plush and bright to go with your overall white holiday theme - you’ll see just how much it transforms the entire room.

Extra Fluff
Last but not least - pillows! Add fresh textiles to your upholstery with white and metallic pillows - don’t be afraid to mix them up! This along with your rug will significantly brighten up the space.

Keep your white rugs and upholstery clean with Triple S! We offer rug, carpet, upholstery, and window treatment cleaning to keep your holiday brights brighter than ever. 5 Best Winter Drapery Ideas

Keep the winter chill outside of your home by covering your windows with warmer, smarter options. Whether you prefer a more design-driven option or a heavier thermal choice, there are plenty of ways you can keep your home toasty for the holidays and beyond.

Layered Curtains
Double up on heavy fabrics over your windows to keep drafts out. They make a design statement while keeping your home comfortable so you can save on energy.

Insulated Curtains
Curtains with built-in thermal backing can insulate your home the best. While they may not be the cheapest, they sure do block out cold air and act as a benefit through the winter months.

Dark Colors
The darker the color of your window treatments, the more sunlight and heat they will absorb.

Heavily Woven Fabrics
Not all curtain fabrics are meant to keep cold air out. Choose thick fabrics such as velvet, tweed, and tapestry. Cotton blends and canvas could also provide limited warmth.

Draft Snakes
Place a fabric tub on your window sill to prevent cold air from creeping in through the tiniest of openings. You can make these yourself or purchase at your local home decor store.

Keep your home insulated with these winter drapery ideas! For more expert design tips, please contact us at DUC Interiors - a division of Triple S. With over 50 years of experience we are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright throughout the season!

Dos & Dont's Of Buying a Rug

It seems like there are many rules when it comes to deciding on home decor - including rugs. While there aren’t any definite rules, there are certainly a few do’s and don’ts you’ll want to be aware of before making a purchase.

 DO set a budget
You should buy the best rug - but one that you can afford. By setting a budget for yourself, you can rule out many options and work with the ones in your price range. Use the general cost of other furniture in your room as a guideline for how much you want to spend. For example, your rug should cost as much as your sofa or slightly more. .

DON’T go too small
What you don’t want is a rug that’s too small for your future. Rule of thumb: choose a rug that is two feet shorter than the smallest wall in the room. For a 10X12 foot space, look for a rug that is no more than eight feet wide. Dining room rugs should be at least 18 inches longer than the edge of the table so that it accommodates your dining room chairs.

DO get inspiration
Skim through interior design magazines or Pinterest for inspiration. You might be looking at high-end decor, but chances are you can find a very similar, more affordable style elsewhere.

DON’T settle
Rugs are an investment for our home - don’t choose a cheap material or texture. Look for good quality rugs like wool and silk, A high-quality rug will in fact look better overtime. In fact, wool can “develop its own patina” from exposure to light and air and foot traffic.

Need for a top rated padding and cleaning for your area rug? Triple S has an array of recommended padding solutions as well as professional cleaning services. For more expert tips on carpets, call the cleaning specialists at Triple S! We have three main plant locations:

#HarvestCleaning: Reasons to Be Thankful For an Organized Home

Thanksgiving is just a day away - time to kickstart the holiday season! While we’re thankful for many things, we’re most thankful that we get to help people keep their homes clean. When it comes to a clean and organized home, there are many reasons to be grateful. When you keep your home organized, you’ll realize these are the reasons you have to be thankful:

Find what you need
From your favorite holiday sweater to decorations, the more organized your home is, the easier it will be to pull everything out around the holiday season. In a messy household, it can take hours trying to find those items you need around this time of year, but when you take steps to make your home more organized, your life becomes a little easier.

Make dinners easier

The more space you make in your kitchen, the easier cooking will be - especially around the holidays. Picture you’re getting ready for your annual dinner and the pantry is cramp, the countertops are crowded, and the drawers are filled to the rim. Make cooking lighter by emptying out what you don’t need and what’s expired.

Be a great host

What more could your guests ask for than a well-organized gathering with family? When you have an organized home, you will make your guests feel more welcomed. The more invited they feel, the happier the occasion and the more at ease you will feel when hosting your next gathering.

#HarvestCleaning: Prepping the Dinner Table

Starting to get your house decorated and set for Thanksgiving? When it comes to setting the table, there are a few ideas that can transform your dining area and get your friends and family in the holiday spirit:

 Color palette
Choose a color scheme as a starting point for your thanksgiving table. Chocolate brown or crisp white are two perfect palettes to start with that compliment some rooms but might not work for others. Play off of the colors you already have and find a warm palette to kickstart the holiday season!

Personalized seating
Create customized place cards with each guest’s name and tie them to mini pumpkins for a personal touch. It will spruce up the table and make your guests feel special.

Fall florals
Arrange a floral centerpiece this Thanksgiving that includes berries, mini pumpkins, and other warm-colored flowers like yellow, orange, and red.

Simple setting
Your Thanksgiving table doesn’t have to be over-the-top. Instead, pair a few subtle elements with a neutral-colored dish set that is simple yet elegant. For example, add red napkins to compliment your floral arrangement, and place gold wine glasses on the table. Add a neutral-colored running across the table and you’re set!

Add ribbon
This is one thing you can keep around all holiday season - large bows tied around each chair. It puts that final touch to the whole look and makes the room feel special.

#HarvestCleaning: 10 Easy Thanksgiving Decorations

Thanksgiving is just a week away, which means it’s time to decorate! Get festive for the holiday easily with these 10 simple, creative ideas:

Message board: We just love the idea of a message board to let your family write about what they are grateful for this year. Cut out colorful leaves and let your little ones write messages. Use thumb tacks to stick them on.

Candleholders:
Swap out traditional candleholders for small plumbings and gourds. They will look expensive but are one of a kind!

Cornucopia: This is a must! Fill a cornucopia with small pumpkins and gourds as a dining room table centerpiece. The look will have your guests talking!

Harvest mantel: Decorate your mantel with harvest decor, such as pumpkins, festive plates, and small chalkboard for inspirational quotes.

Bottle display: Use clear bottles and fill them with seasonal berries. Place them on the window sill, a shelf, or table.

Feathered turkey: Create a feathered turkey glued together with scraps of colorful paper and write the things you are thankful for.

Harvest wreath: Don’t wait for Christmas to come around! Hang a “give thanks” wreath on your door to welcome guests on Thursday.

Thanksgiving card tray: Another way to show thanks this harvest season is to lay out little cards on a silver tray and let guests create their own sayings and designs.

Autumn stuffings: Stuff glass containers with beans, nuts, and other fall hues. Place on a copper tray for a metallic touch of sophistication.

Floral bucket: Add a colorful, seasonal arrangement to your table by placing a mix of deep-toned carnations, juniper branches, and plum-colored lilies.

#HarvestCleaning: Tidy Up Your Kitchen in 1-2-3

Cleaning the kitchen can be a hassle. But when you’re pressed for time with Thanksgiving around the corner, there’s only so much you can do. This weekend, use these 3 easy steps to tidy things up and make more room for your holiday feast:

Start top to bottom
The rules of cleaning are simple: start top to bottom. When you clean your cabinets and countertops, you’re likely to get the floor more dirty, so don’t waste time cleaning the floor first.

Clean your tile
When cleaning kitchen countertops and backsplash, use a streak-free cleaner to scrub the floors. At Triple S, we offer several pH neutral cleaners for all types of natural stone, tile, and grout surfaces. You can even use this on your shower walls as an additional holiday cleaning aid! No harsh chemicals or smell!

Empty the  pantry and fridge
The third thing you want to do to prepare your home for Thanksgiving is make room for more food and groceries. Empty out your pantry and fridge by tossing away what’s expired and what you don’t eat. If it’s been there a while, you don’t need it. If it’s canned food, you can donate to your local food shelter to feed the homeless this holiday.

At Triple S, we offer professional cleaning services, including rug, carpet, upholstery, and tile cleaning to help you get your home ready for Thanksgiving. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

#HarvestCleaning: Rearranging Furniture for Your Thanksgiving Party

When we think about Thanksgiving, we associate it with large family gatherings and small spaces. Even those with small spaces can make room for a party. All it takes is a little rearranging and strategizing. To give you a few ideas on how you can create ample space in your home, here is how you can start:

Move non-essentials
Have an extra table that won’t be used? Push it to another room temporarily to allow more room for guests have more space for socializing.

Create conversation areas

After you move the non-essential furniture, you have more space to create conversation areas. Split up the room with separate sections for small conversations. Turn chairs and couches towards each other or create a circle. This will make the space more inviting.

Turn the dining table

When you add a leaf or additional table in the dining room there oftentimes isn’t enough room. But if you turn the table on an angle, you’ll have more room for your friends and family. You can fit up to an additional 5 feet!

#HarvestCleaning: Easy Ways to Stay Dust Free

Just when you think you’ve solved your dust dilemma, it comes back to haunt you. And when the holidays come around, the last thing you want is to feel embarrassed by the dirt in your home. No sweat! Here are some of the most creative ways you can create a dust-free environment.

 1. Lay out doormats. First things first. Dirt particles are a huge part of dust, so you want to stop dirt from coming through the door. Set up doormats both outside and inside every door. Ask your guests to kindly take off their shoes.

2. Groom pets regularly. Dead skin cells are another major source of dust, and unfortunately our furry companions don’t help. But if you groom them often, it can minimize a great deal of that dust. The same goes for kittens - they can clean for themselves, but their litter boxes can’t!

3. Go for carpet. Contrary to popular belief, carpet doesn’t create more dust - it just holds it in more. Hardwood makes dust go airborne, especially once you open the windows for fresh air (we know you might be doing that this holiday season). We’re not saying you need to purchase a carpet right now, but it’s something to think about. Plus, a few rugs might help.

4. Wash your sheets often. Talk about dust mites! Use a mild detergent to wash your sheets and pillows once a week to stay dust-free. Then dry and fluff them. You can also choose to take them out for dry cleaning - make sure to read labels.

5. Don’t forget upholstery. Yes, upholstery can hold a lot of dust too. Vacuums weren’t only make for carpets - take it to your upholstery and window treatments too! Better yet, schedule a professional cleaning.

If vacuuming doesn’t help your dusty situation, turn to Triple S! We have the necessary training and experience to safely and effectively clean your rugs, carpet, upholstery, and window treatments. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

#HarvestCleaning: 5 Steps to a Spotless Carpet

Harvest season is here! All the more reason to gather some lists on how you can prepare for your Thanksgiving gathering and how you can clean up the mess afterwards. As our way of saying thanks to our customers, here are 5 easy steps to get rid of those food and drink stains.

 Find green cleaner
The best kind of cleaner is one that is eco-friendly and has not been tested on animals. If you’re looking for a DIY, vinegar, detergent, and water is a great solution that can get rid of those holiday stains - everything from cranberry and gravy to wine and coffee.

Test product
You want to pre-test your solution before you pour the solution on the entire stain. Put a few drops of formula on each color in the textile and, using your white-absorbent material, hold it against each color, count to ten, then examine the results. If the dye has bled into the absorbent material, or if there has been a change in the colored area, call a professional ASCR member cleaner for advice.

Work on stain inward
Avoid leaving a ring on your furniture or rugs by working from the outer edge toward the center of the stain. Bonus tip: blot frequently as opposed to rubbing or brushing.

Let dry
This is the step where you need to have a little patience. Some stains respond slowly and that’s OK - let the solution do its magic. If once it’s dry, you don’t see the desired results, contact a textile specialist.

Call pro
Some stains are just too big or difficult to remove on your own. That’s where the help of a professional comes in handy.

Are You Making these Cleaning Mistakes?

If you’re someone who rushes the cleaning process in your home, you’re not alone. Even when you’re lounging around at home on a Sunday afternoon, nobody wants to get out vacuum and start going around the house. But if we don’t, then our homes will look disastrous.

We hate to admit, but there are several mistakes many of us make while cleaning. Here are a few to avoid:

1. Facing utensils in the same direction
When washing your utensils in the dishwasher, avoid facing them upwards or downwards in the same direction to prevent a complete cleaning.

2. Spraying cleaner on the surface
Instead of spraying your cleaner directly on the surface, apply the formula to a cloth and wipe down until it requires less solution. This cuts build up.

3. Washing windows in the sun
You might feel more inspired to clean on a sunny day, but did you know that cleaning windows when it's sunny and warm can result in streaks on window panes? Wait until a more overcast day for better results.

4. Wiping carpet stains
Scrubbing stains, be it urine, wine, or coffee, isn’t an effective way to get rid of the mess - in fact, it can make matters worse. Try this: as soon as you see the stain, use a cloth or dry towel and blot. Repeat until the stain dissolves and let air dry.

5. Vacuuming pet fur without attachments
Are you using your standard vacuum parts to pick up pet fur? That will only blow it away! First, collect any visible fur into a pile using a broom, then use the necessary nozzles on your vacuum to suck up the rest of the fur.

Whether your carpet is covered in coffee or pet hair, Triple S has what you need to make them look Clean Fresh and Bright again!  We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience in carpet, upholstery, tile, grout, and other types of cleaning services.

Spotless Floors for Winter

Between nasty weather, stuffy heat, and heavy foot traffic, your floors are bound to take a beating during the winter months. That’s why it’s crucial to keep a consistent cleaning schedule - even if it means taking five minutes out of your weekend afternoon to vacuum. What are the rules of achieving spotless floors for winter? We’ve got your secrets:

Vacuum vents
If you have baseboard heating in your home, take a moment to vacuum before turning on the heat if you haven’t already. They can accumulate a lot of dust and dirt. Which ultimately will get blown around. The most you keep up with this throughout the season, the cleaner your floors will be.

Deep clean floors
From snow to salt to dirt, your floors can get pretty filthy in the winter. Use a sunday morning to scrub your floors and vacuum.

Call a professional
What you really need is a professional cleaning to get rid of those tough stains vacuums and other methods just can’t fix. A professional carpet, tile, and hardwood cleaner has the tools and experience.

For the cleanest floors, call the textile experts at Triple S! We have what you need to help you make your carpet, tile, and other textiles look Clean, Fresh, & Bright again! Triple S is a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

5 Ways to Get Creative With Rugs

Choosing the right rug is tricky when all things are considered - placement, foot traffic, and style preference. Sometimes these options are so similar that it makes the decision that much more challenging. So think outside the box with these 5 ways you can spruce up your space with rugs:

Make an entrance
Roll out the runner so you’re not slipping when you walk inside the door. Even if you don’t have a large entrance area, choose a considerate sized rug to prevent further damage to the floor below and catch dirt at the door.

Add layer
Layer on the rugs! We mean it. This approach will cozy up your home in winter and add dimension to your space, creating a stronger visual interest and inviting more colors and textures into your home.

Go high pile shag
What do you know - shag rugs are back! They work well on wood floors and can be switched up with a low pile rug if you live in a multi-climate environment. Don’t be afraid to pile on the texture.

Go circular
We usually think about rectangular shapes when it comes to rugs, but who says you can’t try something outside the box? Literally. Try three circular rugs layered on top of one another to tailor your floor coverage and fit your unique layout.

Choose multicolor
A multi colored rug can help you disguise stains when they occur. Whether it be wine, chocolate, or tomato sauce from your child’s birthday celebration, a rug with multi colored flecks in it act as a beautiful distraction from the small mess.

But as beautiful as your rug is, we highly recommend a professional cleaning for any mess (even if you can’t see it). At Triple S, we offer professional cleaning services, including rug, carpet, upholstery, and tile cleaning. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

Are You Cleaning Your Vacuum Right?

Like any other household appliance, we owe it to our vacuums to keep them clean. The more we use them, the more filthy they become. And while it’s easy to forget to clean our vacuums properly, taking just a few minutes to follow these 3 steps can save you from having to purchase a new one:

Step 1: Remove Dirt
One of the biggest mistake you can make is forgetting to clean the dirt container and bag. Remove the bag, empty out the dirt, and replace or rinse and put back in place.

Step 2: Check Filter
You filter needs to be cleaned often, depending on how often you vacuum. Be sure to read the manual that came with your vacuum and either clean or replace the filter periodically.

Step 3: Clean Parts
From the brush roll beneath your vacuum to your extension tubes, you will need to get rid of the dust and dirt inside. Wipe them down with a damp cloth and let them dry after cleaning with a mix of warm water and dish soap.

If vacuuming isn’t giving you the clean results you desire, turn to Triple S! We have the necessary training and experience to safely and effectively clean your rugs, carpet, and upholstery. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

The Best Dog Hair Removal Tips

Calling all dog lovers - does your furry friend shed all over your home? Do you find clumps of fur over your carpet and upholstery? If you know the feeling well, then you know it can be a nightmare keeping up with the mess (but not impossible). Here are a few friendly dog hair removal tips you can easily do even as you rush out the door.

Buy a lint roller
Many of you already have these. If not, then stop at your local grocery or pet store while you’re on the road. The adhesive is made for easy dust, pet hair, and dandruff removal. Sometimes we feel rushed in the process, but if you roll over your fabric in slow strokes, you’ll have better success at removing what your pet leaves behind.

Use velcro

If that doesn’t work, try a velcro pet hair removal tool such as the Evercare Magik Brush. This product has been around since the 50s. It works on most materials including cloth, upholstery, carpeting, drapes, and bedspreads. It is fully reusable without the need for refills. Plus, it’s easy to clean! Brush over your upholstery and carpets right before bed or first thing in the morning to keep up with your ever-shedding furry companion.

Vacuum regularly
For best results, use an upright vacuum cleaner regularly. It doesn’t have to be every day, but every few days is perfectly suitable for keeping pet hair and dander at bay. Because dogs tend to shed most in spring and fall, now is the perfect time to purchase a new vacuum if yours is out of service or isn’t getting the job done right!

Prep Backyard For Cold Weather

The temps are slowly dropping, which means winter is on its merry way! Is your outdoor space ready for the ice and snow? From prepping your lawn to keeping your deck clear, here are the important tasks you’ll need to complete before this season is over:

Sweep
Autumn brings cool weather and lots and lots of leaves. You may also experience a few tropical storms around this time of year, which leads us to this tip: sweeping. Sweep the leaves, sweep the debris, sweep anything that could get stuck under the snow (because we all know what lies ahead). Repeat as needed to keep your deck or patio clear of any obstructions.

Disconnect hoses
Prevent your pipes from freezing by disconnecting your outdoor hose. When you forget to disconnected this hose for winter,  the water that remains within will freeze and almost certainly cause the lining to crack. If you have a control nozzle on your hose and freezing occurs, the ice will put pressure on the pipes connected to the house and result in an entire home plumbing problem. We say be safe and disconnect now.

Trim lawn
Now is your final chance! Make sure you fertilize and mow the lawn before the first freeze of the season. Rake away dead leaves that fall and cut your lawn, leaving just about 2 inches. The last thing you want to do is worry about mold and tall grass popping up through the snow which accumulates on your lawn all winter long.

Store cushions
Protect your outdoor furniture by storing umbrellas, chairs, and patio cushions. Some professional cleaning plants will even pick up your cushions, store, clean, and return to you next season so that bad weather doesn’t get the best of them.

Triple S offers seasonal patio and boat cushion cleaning to keep your outdoor furnishings protected for next spring. As part of this service, we will pick up your cushions, clean, store, and return them looking better than ever! To learn more about our free winter storage going on now, visit us on the web.

Decorating With Royal Blue

Choosing a color scheme for your home can be a tedious process. The decision depends upon many elements such as style, space, and design preference. But if the choice has your head spinning, we know one color that is sure to be a perfect fit:

Calming
Psychologically, blue is a refreshing, calming color, perfect for your home. But many different shades of blue convey different themes and emotions. For example, royal blue reminds us of the evening sky while light blue reminds us of the ocean waves.

Bold
Blue is a bold color, but it pairs perfectly with neutrals such as tan, beige, white, and ivory. Add a splash to your space with pillows and an area rug, paired with complementary hues such as orange and yellow.

Timeless
The best part about blue is its timelessness. Blue goes with any style and any season. Royal blue suites the winter months perfectly. Add it to your modern, traditional, or contemporary home.

A few ways you can incorporate blue into your room are:
  • Pairing it with soft white fabrics
  • Add it to your nautical themed home
  • Make it the color of your patterned tile, fabrics, and rugs to create a Moroccan style
  • Dedicate one wall in your powder room for an accent wall
Breathe new life into your home with blue accents! For more expert design tips, please contact us at DUC Interiors - a division of Triple S. With over 50 years of experience we are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright throughout the season!

Grout Cleaning Secrets

Grout is a fundamental part of the tile in your bathroom and kitchen. And keeping your grout clean helps the overall appearance of your space and improves the presence of your home. However, oftentimes washing grout is overlooked.

With constant foot traffic, use of commercial cleaners, and moisture, your grout can take a serious beating. Here’s how you can get it back:

Sealing

Keeping your grout clean sometimes means resealing it to perfection. Lots of dirt and dust effect the color of your grout, which is where a professional grout and tile cleaning company can come in, renew, and repair!

Cleaners

Sometimes all you need is an everyday cleaning solution. For instance, when it comes to grout between your backsplash, a pH-neutral, streak-free cleaner is easy to use and can restore the beauty of your grout.

Bonus Tip

When scrubbing grout yourself, use an unused toothbrush. The brussels are fine enough to get between your tile and the handle of the brush will make it easier to use!

At Triple S, we can make your tile and grout look new again with professional cleaning and sealing! We use top notch cleaning solutions and machinery to deep clean and rinse away residue. Plus, we give you a free bottle of our famous Balance Neutral PH Cleaner for easy, everyday use. To learn more about our grout and tile cleaning services, visit us on the web.

Your 2016 Fall Cleaning Guide

Autumn is a beautiful time of year! It’s also a busy time for homeowners who are preparing for the chilly months ahead - especially those who live in the northeast. With breezy days upon us, take some time to tidy up and make your home as comfortable and safe as possible for the long winter soon approaching.

Inside the Home
  • Clean and organized kitchen cabinets. Toss away expired foods and other foods you haven’t eaten in awhile. Make room for the new!
  • Vacuum drapes and window treatments using the proper nozzle.
  • Vacuum upholstered furniture or better yet, have professionally cleaned.
  • Clean all bedding. This includes mattress pads, pillows, duvets, blankets, and comforters.
  • Schedule professional carpet cleaning early next month.
Outside the Home
  • Touch up the paint on your home’s trim, railings, and decks.
  • Drain and store the garden hose. Install insulating covers on exterior spigots to prevent them from freezing.
  • Check caulk around windows and doors and apply if necessary.
  • Keep the deck and gutter clear of leaves when they start to fall.
  • Clean and store umbrellas, patio furniture, and patio cushions.
Fall cleaning means turning over a new leaf! Whether that means scheduling a professional carpet or upholstery cleaning, or storing your patio cushions, getting ready for fall is easy when you have the right contacts on hand! Triple S offers carpet, tile, upholstery cleaning and more! We also have seasonal patio and boat cushion cleaning to keep your outdoor furnishings protected for next spring.

5 Fast Facts from Textile Experts

At Triple S, we often receive questions from homeowners about caring for their household items. This includes carpets, comforters, draperies, and more. To help sift through some of the common questions we are often asked, here are five crucial facts you must know about such textiles:

1. Water stains appear when moisture from condensation on the window, humidity or spilled liquids causes the soils to disperse, leaving a stained area.

2. We often hear about white drapes that have yellowed noticeably in certain areas. Most fibers have a natural tendency to slowly oxidize and yellow from aging and atmospheric exposure. Any drapery material used to cover a window is exposed to both direct and indirect light.

3. The best way to prevent excessive damage or fading is to rotate a few different sets of drapes, blankets or comforters periodically, or with the seasons (hint: rotate them for fall!).

4. Handmade quilts are especially susceptible to dye bleeding since the fabric components of the quilt vary. At Triple S, we test quilts to ensure no bleeding will ruin it.

5. Comforters left in direct sunlight can fade in some areas. It is best to keep comforters and heirloom quilts out of direct light to prevent damage.

We hope these facts help you prepare for the seasons ahead! At Triple S, we offer expert carpet, drapery, and upholstery cleaning to help you get your home ready for fall. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience. We have three main plant locations:

Falling in Love With Decor

Today marks the official start of fall. As sad as we are to see summer go, the memories of last year’s crisp air and cozy nights indoors have us feeling excited about the month ahead! For every season, we go through some changes, especially with our home decor. 2016 holds some of the most unexpected fall design tips yet!

White on white: Gone are the days of dark colors. Ultra white is stunning, fresh, and unexpected for fall.

Neutrals
: Pair neutrals together. Use warm neutrals such as beige, tan, and brown. The more layers and texture you add to your neutrals, the more cozy your room will feel.

Go bold: Bright colors are no longer for springtime alone. For example, mix blue and orange together to create a bold statement throughout the room and make sure the colors connect to each other.

Tell a story: One of the biggest fall trends is to tell a story with your distinct design. Tell people using your decor how you live your life and where you travel - whether it be an oriental rug from another continent or decorative accents.

No matter how you decide to decorate for fall this year, but sure to keep your rugs and upholstery looking Clean, Fresh, & Bright! At Triple S, our textile experts will help keep your home looking new as ever. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

Furniture Cleaning 101

Many house rules include not eating on the couch and not letting the dog jump up. But let’s face it: sometimes accidents happen no matter how often you say the word “no”. To clean up the mess, whether it be chocolate or pet urine, here are a few tricks to jot down:

DIY
Method 1: Make an all-purpose cleaner by combining 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent, and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. No toxic chemicals involved. Be sure to spot check in one area before cleaning the entire surface.

Method 2: Mix a small amount of dry cleaning solvent or alcohol with one teaspoonful of white neutral detergent. Then mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half cup of water. For stains such as chocolate or grease, use one-third cup of household vinegar with two-thirds cup of water.

Pro Cleaning
At Triple S, we offer everything from professional cleaning to spot cleaning products:

Why Carpet Cleaning?

Picture this: every holiday and birthday, you host a party. Every winter and summer, you walk in with dirty shoes. Just imagine all the dirt and pollutants that are getting trailed behind in your carpet. Pretty gross right? While there’s always vacuuming, there’s nothing like a good old fashioned carpet cleaning. Why is this method still #1? Here’s your answer:

Stain removal
Carpet cleaning service goes beyond what your vacuum can do, and that includes stain removal. Carpet cleaning companies like Triple S have the experience and tools it takes to get those pesky stains out of your carpets and rugs unlike commercial cleaners can even take care of.

Increased lifespan
Just like anything else in your home, the more you take care of your carpet, the longer it will last. We rely on green cleaning methods to get your carpets back into shape, which means you don’t have to worry about chemicals ruining your carpet.

Get rid of bacteria
A dirty carpet contains several sources of indoor air pollutants, including pet dander, allergens, particle, pollution, and dirt. When toxic airborne gases adhere to these particles, they can get trapped in your carpet, worsening the situation. Professional carpet cleaning services kills these bacteria through special formulas that remove pollutants.

Improved appearance
The dirtier your carpets are, the more dull they look. Leave it up to professional carpet cleaning to restore your fresh carpet once more!

Deodorize
With pet dander and dirt also comes a musky odor. Vacuums can only do so much, but professional carpet cleaning can thoroughly deodorize your carpet and make it smell fresh again.

For the freshest carpets, call the textile experts at Triple S! We have the tools and equipment to help you make your carpets and upholstery look Clean, Fresh, & Bright again! We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

5 Facts About Hardwood Floors

Why do so many homeowners opt for hardwood floors? Well, a few reasons: not only do hardwood floors add instant value to your home but they also have a way of making your space feel more elegant. If you’re thinking about hardwood floors for your home, here are a few things you may not already know:

1. Uniqueness: You will never see the same hardwood floor twice. Because of its organic makeup, your wooden floors will be one-of-a-kind unlike many other laminate and vinyl flooring options.

2. Reactions to climate:
Take good care of your hardwood floors by regulating indoor temperature and minimizing sun exposure. All hardwood floors will fade or change shades overtime, but that all depends on the amount of sunlight. Humidity can be another problem, as moisture can cause your flooring to warp. The same goes for accidental spills  if not cleaned up properly and immediately.

3. Maintenance and repairs: By mopping, dusting, or vacuuming hardwood, you can easily take good care of your floors. Once a season, be sure to call a professional cleaning company to take care of those hard-to-reach stains.

4. Allergens: Believe it or not, hardwood floor can worsen allergy problems for some. The reason? Unlike carpet, hardwood causes allergens to go airborne as opposed to absorbing them. This means more allergens are flying in the air and around your home. So it is especially careful to clean often.

5. Budget: Although hardwood floors are more expensive than other types of flooring options, most take its lifespan into consideration. Hardwood flooring is more costly upfront but can last you a lifetime with minimal maintenance involved.

Flooring Ideas for Your Bedroom Makeover

When it comes to designing your bedroom, your floors are essential. They should be both comfortable and fashionable, and should be something you know you will love for years to come. Whether it be a chic vibe or a comfortable feel, here are three flooring ideas we suggest:

Tile
There’s a wide array of flooring options, but ceramic happens to be our favorite. It’s a great option for those who want the flooring to flow from their master suite to the master bath. If you already have the furniture and are looking to redo the floors, use your existing furniture as inspiration. For example, if you have a light oak wood bed frame, choose a warmer beige tone. If your furniture and decor is white and more modern, go with a slate color.

Hardwood
Hardwood is the most common type of flooring that most homeowners use throughout their living space. You can choose an unfinished look or a polished touch. There’s also the option to do multi-shade flooring (a combination of light and dark wood planks). This is ideal for more rustic chic bedrooms. Whichever you choose, this option is timeless.

Carpet
Carpet is brilliant for those with allergies (yes, it’s true). Allergens become more airborne when your bedroom has hardwood but are absorbed better into carpet. We love natural fibers as opposed to synthetic fibers, such as wool. Not only is it eco-friendly but it’s also incredibly sturdy.

Once you settle on a bedroom  floor you love, turn to Triple S! We proudly serve Norwalk and the surrounding regions and can help you efficiently clean your carpets, wood, tiles, grout, furntiure, and more! 7 Tips To a Clean Office

With kids going back to school it reminds us that our offices need to be just as clean and organized as schools are in September. Whether it be your home office or your office building, here are a few tricks to start fresh:

1. Take a minute to organize receipts and documents. Place them in separate piles and throw away what you don’t need - especially if you can find it on your computer.

2. Toss away old pens. Chances are half of them are out of ink if they’ve been left open or you haven’t used them in a while. Leave out a few that you use often. If you have a pencil sharpener laying around that you don’t use, donate it to your local school.

3. Your desk can easily get covered with dust, so use the condensation from your iced coffee cup or wipe down the desk with a damp paper towel.

4. It’s always nice to get gifts at work. But if you have a ton of toys and cards scattered around your desk, either find a special place for them or toss them (this is your personal preference). You’ll be more able to focus.

5. If you aren’t at your desk, keep the food away. Not only will you get some unwanted guests, but you’ll also be more able to focus when you’re not eating.

6. Vacuum your upholstery and rugs or carpets. Chances are you vacuum in other rooms but might neglect your office space - make an effort to tidy up the space this fall.

7. You can also benefit from wiping up wooden floors if you have them. Eliminate all the dirt and allergens that came in spring so you’re off to a fresh start!

The Real Reason Your Pet Sheds

You love your pet, but you don’t necessarily love all that hair on your couch and clothes. Although shedding is typically an annoyance, it’s actually the best indicator that your pet has healthy skin and hair. Still, you might be wondering why this natural occurrence happens. Before we can understand the question of “why”, we must understand the basic hair structure.

Skin
The skin is a soft outer covering of your pet and has several layers. It’s main functions are to insulate and regulate the body temperature as well as sensation.

Hair
A hair is essentially dead material, but living cells produce it. Hair is made up of the protein called exokeratin. There are different parts of the hair:
Hair Shaft: above the skin’s surface
Hair Root: under the skin’s surface
Bulb: enlarged, hollow portion at the base of the root
Hair Papilla: projection of dermis into center of the bulb
Follicle: skin indentation protecting the root

Growth
Hair grows in cycles. When it reaches a certain length, the growth stops due to genetic profile. The rate of hair growth determines the length and amount of coat on your pet. Growth has different stages:
Anagen: The first phase of new hair growth. Pets who don’t tend to shed heavily have a longer angagen phase and vise versa.
Catagen: This is the transitional phase. Catagen phase starts when the cell creation signals to stop. It stops hair from growing and the outer root sheaths attaches to the hair.
Telogen: The rest period between the catagen and anagen phases.
Exogen: This is the final stage - the shedding stage. This phase occurs when the hair falls out and the follicle moves back into the anagen phase. Some pets have most of the follicles in telogen and may be nearly hairless. For dogs, hair growth rate varies on different parts of the body.
