Brighten Up Your Rugs

The holiday season means fun with family, celebrating with friends, and hosting countless parties. Unfortunately, all that celebrating could also be a recipe for disaster for your carpet or rug. Spilled drinks, dropped food, and increased foot traffic could leave your rug with more stains than usual. Thankfully, there is a way to remedy even the toughest holiday stains. Keep our spot removal tips in mind to keep your home clean during the holidays.

Common Holiday Stains:
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy
  • Sticky fudge
  • Holiday punch
  • Wine
  • Coffee

To prevent permanent stains, follow these basic rules for spills and spot removal:

  1. Immediately blot up spills using a clean white absorbent material (tissues, napkins, towels, etc.)
  2. Pretest spot removal formulas in an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Put a few drops of formula on each color in the textile and, using your white-absorbent material, hold it against each color, count to ten, then examine the results. If the dye has bled into the absorbent material, or if there has been a change in the colored area, call a professional ASCR member cleaner for advice.
  3. Do not over wet. Work with small amounts of formulas and blot frequently. Problems result from using large amounts. Blot – do not rub or brush. Excessive agitation may cause unsightly distortion which may be permanent.
  4. Work from the outer edge toward the center of the stain.
  5. Have patience – some stains respond slowly.
  6. Remember, haphazard attempts at spot removal may result in indelible stains and/or permanent damage to fabrics.

Follow our spot removal method on our website to find out how to get rid of any pesky stain your home may encounter.

Some stains require special professional care. If the stain is not removed by a prescribed household method, consult a professional cleaner. Triple S offers carpet, upholstery, window treatment cleaning, and more! With our help, we will keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

#MerryAndBright: Stress-Free Ways to Prep Your Home for a Holiday Party

Let’s face it - the holiday season is the most stressful season of them all. With all the cleaning, shopping, cooking, and prepping that goes into planning a great holiday party, anyone is bound to feel the pressure at some point. That is, unless they know the secret to a stress-free plan:

Make a List: The number one way to create a stress-free holiday is to create a list. On this list, prioritize what you need to take care of - cleaning, cooking, gift-buying - make the list as long as it needs to be. The most important thing is that you’ll find yourself more organized.

Cook ahead:
When you leave the soups, meats, and desserts to the last minute, it would cause anyone to stress. Instead, break up your menu. Made the desserts a few days ahead (so as long as they stay fresh). The same goes for your soup - which at times you’ll find have more flavor after a day or two.

Stock up: Grocery and liquor stores can sell out quick around the holidays season. When it comes to soda, cider, wine, as cheese and crackers, purchase these ahead of time so you don’t panic at the last minute as your run around to every store.

Tidy Up a Bit: The holiday isn’t a time for a messy house. By keeping the home tidy by picking up after yourself and scrubbing a little every day, you’ll save yourself the aggravation of having to do a big cleaning just hours before guests arrive.

#MerryAndBright: 7 Easy Steps to a Clean Home for the Holidays

Cleaning for the holidays can be stressful, especially when you leave everything till the last minute. If you break it down a bit, all you need are a few minutes for a couple of days before your party. You can even get started today:

 Day 1: Walk Through
Take a quick walk through your home as if you’re the guest. Anything sore on the eyes should go.

Day 2: Wash Windows
On a cloudy afternoon or in the evening, wash your windows and vacuum the screens to get rid of dust and smears.

Day 3: Deep Clean Bathrooms
Do you have any guests staying over? Make the space feel like home for them by clearing out medicine cabinets and scrubbing the floors. Remove clutter and add essentials they’ll need such as linens, fresh soap, and hand lotion.

Day 4: Clean the Kitchen

After the bathroom, tackle the kitchen by cleaning your stove top, countertops, and cabinets.

Day 5: Straighten Up the Closet
Straighten up the coat closet and make room for guest coats. Hang extra hangers just in case.

Day 6: Clear the Entryway

First impressions matter. So put down a new, festive door mat, polish the doorknob, hang the wreath, and sweep the entryway clean.

Day 7: Touch Up and Plan

The party is now days away - make those last minute touch ups and plan how you will set the table and what you will prepare come your holiday dinner.

#MerryAndBright: Decorate With White

‘Tis the season of giving, celebrating, and our favorite - decorating.

Are you looking to deck the halls? It reminds us of  that classic song, Walking In A Winter Wonderland. Your home should be merry and bright, which has us thinking about ways in which you can decorate your home with elements of white for the holiday season. Here are a few of our favorite ideas to get you in the spirit:

 White & Gold Tree
Let’s start with the most fundamental home element of all - the holiday tree. Start with your basic fir or pine for a fresh organic look. Then grab the gold garland, pearls, white lights, and crystal ornaments. You want your tree to look brightest.

White Mantle
When it comes to hanging stockings, swap out you traditional red for white. Carry elements from your tree to your mantle too by hanging some garland and lights. You can hang a silver, gold, and white jingle bell wreath too.

Decked Out Shelf
Reindeer, stars snowflakes, and mini trees - whatever holiday pieces come to mind, be sure to find them in white or a neutral color that keeps the room feeling cheery.

The Rug
Whether you decide to layer on a rug or switch it up all together choose a textile that is plush and bright to go with your overall white holiday theme - you’ll see just how much it transforms the entire room.

Extra Fluff
Last but not least - pillows! Add fresh textiles to your upholstery with white and metallic pillows - don’t be afraid to mix them up! This along with your rug will significantly brighten up the space.

Keep your white rugs and upholstery clean with Triple S! We offer rug, carpet, upholstery, and window treatment cleaning to keep your holiday brights brighter than ever. 5 Best Winter Drapery Ideas

Keep the winter chill outside of your home by covering your windows with warmer, smarter options. Whether you prefer a more design-driven option or a heavier thermal choice, there are plenty of ways you can keep your home toasty for the holidays and beyond.

Layered Curtains
Double up on heavy fabrics over your windows to keep drafts out. They make a design statement while keeping your home comfortable so you can save on energy.

Insulated Curtains
Curtains with built-in thermal backing can insulate your home the best. While they may not be the cheapest, they sure do block out cold air and act as a benefit through the winter months.

Dark Colors
The darker the color of your window treatments, the more sunlight and heat they will absorb.

Heavily Woven Fabrics
Not all curtain fabrics are meant to keep cold air out. Choose thick fabrics such as velvet, tweed, and tapestry. Cotton blends and canvas could also provide limited warmth.

Draft Snakes
Place a fabric tub on your window sill to prevent cold air from creeping in through the tiniest of openings. You can make these yourself or purchase at your local home decor store.

Dos & Dont's Of Buying a Rug

It seems like there are many rules when it comes to deciding on home decor - including rugs. While there aren’t any definite rules, there are certainly a few do’s and don’ts you’ll want to be aware of before making a purchase.

 DO set a budget
You should buy the best rug - but one that you can afford. By setting a budget for yourself, you can rule out many options and work with the ones in your price range. Use the general cost of other furniture in your room as a guideline for how much you want to spend. For example, your rug should cost as much as your sofa or slightly more. .

DON’T go too small
What you don’t want is a rug that’s too small for your future. Rule of thumb: choose a rug that is two feet shorter than the smallest wall in the room. For a 10X12 foot space, look for a rug that is no more than eight feet wide. Dining room rugs should be at least 18 inches longer than the edge of the table so that it accommodates your dining room chairs.

DO get inspiration
Skim through interior design magazines or Pinterest for inspiration. You might be looking at high-end decor, but chances are you can find a very similar, more affordable style elsewhere.

DON’T settle
Rugs are an investment for our home - don’t choose a cheap material or texture. Look for good quality rugs like wool and silk, A high-quality rug will in fact look better overtime. In fact, wool can “develop its own patina” from exposure to light and air and foot traffic.
