Get Rid Of Allergens In Your Home

Are you sneezing more than usual? Allergy season is upon us, which means being outdoors can get uncomfortable. But did you know we’re also exposed to allergen particles inside our homes? Research from the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found at least six allergens in more than 50 percent of homes.

Get Rid Of Allergens In Your Home | CT | Triple S |

While it’s impossible to make your house completely allergen-free, there are a few ways to help you breathe easy.

Follow dusting ‘do’s and don'ts.’ Dust mites are the most common trigger of asthma and other allergy symptoms. However, dusting ends up kicking allergen particles into the air, making things worse.

Use a damp cloth and pat dust clean rather than scattering it. You can also lower the amount of dust buildup by minimizing the clutter in your home.

Switch to ‘green’ cleaning products. The harsh chemicals found in common household cleaners can aggravate your allergies and create poor indoor air quality.

If you’re sensitive to allergens, switch to ‘green,’ environmentally-friendly cleaning products. You can also make your own natural products using ingredients found in your home!

Control your indoor humidity levels. Allergen particles are more likely to stay in your air if there’s too little moisture, so you want the humidity in your home to be about 40 percent.

You can control the air conditions in your home with either a humidifier or a dehumidifier. And during the warmer months, remember to run your air conditioner to help control mold and dust mites.

Vacuum regularly. Vacuuming traps small allergen particles and prevents them from spreading into the air.

Make sure to vacuum at least once a week and call a professional to clean your carpets, as well as your furniture and upholstery.

Triple S knows the importance of good indoor air quality, which is why we offer green cleaning services to make your home Clean Fresh & Bright! With our quality green-cleaning formulas and our modern techniques and equipment, we apply all of our skill, energy and experience into restoring your carpets and upholstery to their like-new look & beauty.

3 Rooms To Feng Shui In Your Home

Since spring is the time for cleaning and clutter clearing, now is the time to rethink, reorganize, and revitalize your house with a little feng shui. This Chinese method can help clean your home in the most efficient, easy, and yes, enjoyable way. We’ve listed three main areas that you should focus on first since they’re the most strongly connected to your well-being.

3 Rooms To Feng Shui In Your Home | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Clear Your Bedroom
 - Remove all items that create visual and energetic EMF (manmade electromagnetic radiation) clutter. This includes your television, any exercise equipment, office/work related items, storage items, etc.
 - Clear the clutter under your bed. If the space underneath your bed is blocked, positive energy can’t circulate around your body when you sleep.
 - Thoroughly clean your closets and let go of any items that haven’t been used in a long time.

Empty Your Kitchen
 - Clear your refrigerator.
 - Clean your appliances, drawers, light fixtures, etc.
 - Let go of all harsh chemical cleaners and opt for more natural options.

Fix Your Main Entry
 - Remedy all potential feng shui disasters - i.e. a mirror facing the main door or a bathroom above the front door.
 - Keep only in-season items in your main entry closet.
 - From a modest side table to a large area rug, try to create a strong, welcoming space.

Even if your place looks seemingly clean on the surface, not every area is in tip-top shape. At Triple S, we offer several cleaning services to restore your carpets, drapes, and upholstery! We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright no matter how messy your furry friends might be!

Houseplants That Clean Your Air

There is a list of risks when it comes to owning a home, but did you know that one of the biggest concerns comes from the air you breathe? According to the EPA, air quality within homes can be more polluted than the outdoor air. Indoor air pollutants range from pollen and dust to chemicals in our furniture and paint (VOCs).

Houseplants That Clean Your Air | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

One simple way to protect your home is by adding houseplants. But which ones get the job done? We recommend these five greens:

Garden Mum
This plant is an air-purifying champion, removing ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and xylene from your indoor air. And once they’re done blooming, you can remove them from your home and add them to your outdoor garden.

Spider Plant
Spider plants are best for removing formaldehyde and carbon monoxide from your home. Bonus: They’re a great choice for forgetful owners because they’re the easiest houseplants to grow. Just simply place them in a room with bright, indirect sunlight.

Red-Edged Dracaena
These red-edged plants can bring a pop of color to your home while also improving your indoor air quality. Primarily, these shrubs are best for removing xylene, trichlorethylene, and formaldehyde - all of which can be introduced into your home through lacquers, gasoline, and varnishes.

Peace Lily
Peace lily plants are relatively small, but they still pack major air-cleaning abilities, removing ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene. Place peace lilies in a shady spot, and keep the soil moist without overwatering.

Chrysanthemum
These full and colorful mums not only liven up a dull spot in your home but also help filter out benzene - an organic chemical compound found in glue, paint, plastics, and detergent.

Stop Dirt At Your Doorstep

Spring is only four more days away, which means it’s almost time for beautiful weather, blooming flowers, and spring cleaning! The first task on our list? Keeping the dirt and dust in our home at bay.

Stop Dirt At Your Doorstep | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Don’t underestimate doormats.
Most of the dirt that gets inside your home comes from the outdoors. The bulk of it comes in unnoticed on your shoes that don’t appear to be either muddy nor dirty. Use doormats at every entrance of your home, both inside and out to help stop dirt in its tracks - or more specifically, on the soles of your shoes.

Wash your mats. Sometimes, all your doormat needs is a good shake to remove the grime. However, over time, it will get extremely dirty - scrub it with liquid soap and hose it down with warm water.

Create a shoe-free zone. Encourage your family and friends to take off their shoes before entering your home. They will understand and respect your decision to keep your home clean and your floors spotless - just make it easy for them to oblige your wishes (a shoe rack or a basket works).

Be mindful of your furry friends. People aren’t the only ones with dirty soles! Before your pet returns from playing outside, wipe their paws and dry off their fur. This will keep your home clean and your pet cozy!

Will you think twice before walking into your home with dirty shoes? We know we will!

At Triple S, we know how important it is to keep your floors clean, fresh, and bright! We offer professional cleaning services for all of your textiles and more. How To Remove Carpet Dents

While the weather may feel like winter, we only have one more week until it’s officially spring. If you decide to kick off your spring cleaning by rearranging your furniture, you might notice a dent in your carpet. If your furniture has been in that same spot for a long period of time, the marks won’t budge on their own. But before you get frustrated and give up on sprucing up your space, we have some tips to help get rid of carpet dents - and it’s easier than you might think!

How To Remove Carpet Dents| Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S

Ice cube: Place an ice cube where the carpet dips and wait until the ice melts. For large indentations, wait up to 12 hours. The water will engorge the dent in the carpet, bringing it back to the height of the surrounding areas. Use a sponge to absorb the excess water and then use a spoon or a coin to gently lift the carpet fibers.

Steam iron: Lay a clean cloth over the dent while using a steam iron. Why use a cloth? It’ll cause damage to the fibers if you lay the iron directly on top of the carpet. Wait for the area to cool and lift the fibers.

Blow dryer: Just as your blow dryer adds volume and body to your hair, it can do the same for your carpet. Spray water to the dent and use a blow dryer to heat the area. Using your fingers, brush the fibers to get rid of the dent.

Damp towel: For deeper divots, lay a moist towel over the dent and iron over the towel on medium heat. Vacuum over the affected area to lift the carpet fibers.

Have any of these tips helped? Do you know of any other dent-removing methods? Let us know in the comments below.
