Understanding The Fabric Cleanability Code

Making a mess in your home is bound to happen. And more than likely, your carpet or furniture are the first to surrender. However, there's an easy fix — and it's made up of three letters — W, X, and S.

Understanding The Fabric Cleanability Code | Carpet Cleaning | Norwalk | Triple S

Code “W”
Code “W” is used on fabrics that should be spot-cleaned with water-based cleaning agents only. It’s also best to apply the product with a soft brush (so you don’t damage the fabric) in a circular motion, and vacuum dry.

Code “X”
You should only clean fabric with code “X” by vacuuming or gently brushing the fabric. Do not use any cleaning agents at all. Any cleaning product, whether it’s water or solvent based, may cause staining, shrinkage, or distortion of the fabric.

Code “S”
Fabrics with the code “S” cleanability code should be cleaned with a milk water-free cleaning solvent or dry cleaning product. If cleaning with code “S,” be sure to do so in a ventilated room!

Cleaning Steps to Follow:
• Always check the code before deciding how to clean your fabric.
• It’s best to test-clean products in a small area first to test for color bleeding or fabric shrinkage.
• When a liquid is spilled, blot as much as possible. Sometimes, no further cleaning is necessary!
• If the troubled spot becomes worse, hire a professional to get the job done right.
