How To Clear Out The Clutter In Your Home

Is it hard to find counter space in your kitchen? Do you have trouble finding a place to sit in your dining room? These are a few definite signs that you’re living in a mess. You may have given up hope of living any other way, but follow these small steps and you’ll see the positive effects on your home and lifestyle.

How To Clear Out The Clutter In Your Home | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S

Slow down the accumulation of possessions. In order to manage our clutter, we need to change our mindset and begin evaluating our purchases differently. Keep a few questions in mind to help raise awareness of an item’s purpose:
- Is this item really needed?
- Do I have a place to store this when I get home?
- Am I buying this for the right reasons?

Remove the excess. The fewer items we own, the easier it is to minimize clutter. Get rid of anything that is no longer used, loved, or essential. To help in the process of cleaning your home, start with the small and easy projects first. Those small victories will help motivate you to tackle the harder cases of clutter in your home.

Implement habits to manage your clutter. Some specific areas in your home will require extra effort and energy compared to others. Create daily or weekly cleaning habits in the rooms that need the most attention. It can be as simple as cleaning the kitchen after every meal or putting away your clothes after you’re done changing.

Once you can finally see the floors in your home, call Triple S. No matter what type of flooring you have, the textile specialists at Triple S are here to help! How To Add Accent Furniture

Do you know a thing or two about making a statement? How about in regards to your home? Adding accent furniture can make a big impact to your interior design, but how do you add these pieces correctly?

How To Add Accent Furniture | Upholstery Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

1. Let it stand out
If everything in one space is special, then nothing will make a statement. You want to balance various items in the room so the statement piece can really make an impact.

2. The rule of three
When incorporating a piece of furniture, throw out the idea that everything has to match. However, keep in mind the rule of three - when adding color to a room, pick it up in three different accent areas. When you start using an abundance of different colors, it can look a bit busy.

3. Keep scale in mind
You want to make sure you’re not adding a piece of furniture that is too large for the rest of the space and vice versa. Not only will it throw off the balance of the room, but it also won’t be able to serve its purpose properly if it doesn’t fit the right dimensions.

4. Choose a focal point
There are certain pieces in a home that act more as a supporting element than a statement piece, i.e. an end table, mirror, or nightstand. To really create the ‘wow’ factor, your accent furniture should be the main part of the room, like a couch or a bed.

At the end of the day, don’t be afraid to play around - it’s your own personal style! Finding the right place for your accent furniture is a balancing game - sometimes the smallest tweaks can make a big difference.

Once you find the right accent furniture to fit your home, don’t forget to keep it spotless! For fabric protectors and upholstery cleaning, call Triple S! We have three main plant locations:

How To Choose The Right Rug

Close your eyes and imagine yourself walking into your home. Do your spirits lift or do they fall? Is it bare or lacking in design? An area rug can help make the statement you’re looking for. But, finding the right one can be tricky business. While it can ultimately improve your space, it can also transform a room to feel uncomfortable or unfinished. Be mindful of these three main elements when choosing your area rugs:

How To Choose The Right Rug | Rug Cleaning | CT | Triple S
Size
Your rug’s measurements should be based upon your desired layout of the room.
- Floating layout - A rug should be large enough to fit under your entire seating area.
- Dining layout - Measure the length and width of your dining room table and add 2 feet on each side. There should be enough room for the front legs of your furniture to always be on the rug.
- Bedroom layout - Extend a rug from the bottom two-thirds of the bed. You could also place two runners on each side or a single runner at the foot of the bed.

Color
The color of your rug depends on the style of the rest of the room. It’s important to take into account the tones in your flooring, walls, and other fixtures. If you already have a lot of color and patterns in your space, stick with something neutral or a shade that complements your furnishings.

Texture
This is probably the most overlooked aspect when choosing a rug, but it shouldn’t be. Hallways with high foot traffic need durable floors. Rooms that are less susceptible to damage can have more textured options. Let the finishes of your existing furniture guide you and aim for contrast. Some textures to choose from include, tufting, dhurries and kilims, looped wool, and distressed.

As beautiful as your rug is, we highly recommend a professional cleaning for any mess (even if you can’t see it). Top Rules For Rugs

There’s a long list of questions when it comes to designing your home’s decor. Adding area rugs to the mix can make it even more tricky when all things are considered - placement, foot traffic, and style preference. Keep these four rug rules in mind to make sure your homes textiles fit pleasantly - after all, a good rug can make or break a room's ambiance.

Top Rules For Rugs | Rugs | CT | Triple S

Rule #1: Position your furniture accordingly
Ideally, your rug should fit entirely underneath your sofas and chairs. If that’s not possible, make sure at least the front feet of your furniture are on the rug. In order to look balanced, rugs should also extend at least 6 inches beyond the arms of the sofa.

Rule #2: Try Layering
Consider layering your area rug over wall-to-wall carpeting. Most people think this is a decorating disaster, but it adds texture and more color to a dull space. In this case, make sure your area rug and carpeting are compatible - placing one that’s too thin over plush carpeting won’t bode well..

Rule #3: Think outside the design standards
Don't be afraid of pattern, color, and texture! An area rug can be the focal point of a room. If your furniture upholstery is neutral, choose a colorful or patterned rug. It doesn't have to match perfectly, but it should coordinate with the other colors and fabrics in the room.

Rule #4: Vacuum regularly
Your home gets some pretty high foot traffic, so your rug is bound to get dirty day to day. Make sure to add cleaning your rugs to your home’s weekly maintenance schedule. Blot up spills immediately and vacuum on a regular basis (at least twice a week) to keep your rugs looking spotless.

No matter what type of rug you choose, the textile specialists at Triple S are here to help you keep it clean! #JustLikeNew: Signs Your Carpets, Rugs, or Upholstery Need Cleaning

Did you know your carpets and rugs can hold as much as four times their weight in dirt? And your furniture can carry just as much bacteria! Besides the harmful health hazards, keeping your fabrics clean will also make your home look and feel just like new. Here are a few signs to help identify whether it’s time you need a professional carpet, rug, or upholstery cleaning.

Stains - Most fabrics in your home come with a stain-resistant finish, but over time, the treatment can fade and leave your carpet or furniture unprotected. Thankfully, professional carpet cleaners know spot removal methods to help with tough stains. Make sure to treat the stains as soon as possible in order to avoid any health hazards.

Wear and tear - You may begin to notice a discoloration in your carpet or furniture in the most commonly used areas. This is particularly noticeable in white, cream, or light shades of fabric. A professional cleaning can help bring the fabric back to life.

Odors - It doesn’t take much for carpets, rugs, or furniture to begin to smell, especially in homes with high traffic. The odor should diminish after a proper professional cleaning. If it doesn't, this means the odor has penetrated deep into the fabric, which is an indication of mold and mildew growth.

Increased allergies - Allergy flare-ups are a major sign that your carpet or upholstery need to be cleaned. Carpets help collect pollutants in the air, but if you don’t keep up with cleanings, the germs will begin to build up which may cause your allergies to surface. Bacteria and germs also thrive in furniture fabrics, specifically dust mites. Make sure you are scheduling regular cleanings to help prevent these germs from affecting your health.

At Triple S, we have the necessary training and experience to safely and effectively clean your rugs, carpet, and upholstery. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

Reasons To Love Wall-to-Wall Carpeting Again!

In recent years, homeowners have made the switch from carpeting to tile or hardwood flooring. While some people can’t get enough of their wood floors, carpet does have quite a few advantages. Here are a few reasons why we believe wall-to-wall carpeting should make a comeback.

Insulation
Carpet helps your home maintain a comfortable temperature year-round, which in turn can decrease your energy bill. Insulation can also help when it comes  noise. The soft fibers and padding absorbs sound waves so your home doesn’t echo.

Comfort
Carpet is soft and warm under your feet, which feels great every season, but especially during  those cold winter mornings when you don’t want to get out of bed! It also adds comfort when you’re playing with children and for those who suffer from joint pain.

Safety
Carpeting is ideal for cushioning our footsteps, reducing slips, and minimizing injuries when falls do occur. Carpets keep toddlers, seniors, and even your furry friends from sliding all over and getting hurt.

Durability
Carpets are long-lasting if you keep up with maintenance and have them properly cleaned and cared for. When spills occur, take advantage of our spot removal tips and tricks and your carpet will look as good as new.

Versatility
There are many options when it comes to carpeting. You can pick from a wide arrangement of patterns, colors, and styles - chances are, there will be a carpet to fit the design of each room in your home.

*Carpets also help those suffering from allergies! They act much like filters, trapping allergens and keeping them out of the air you breath. Remember to clean your carpets to remove any trapped toxins.

Post-holiday Cleanup Tips

Cleaning up can be a tedious chore but, the longer you put it off the more daunting it will feel. Whether you plan on hosting more parties in the new year or you’re looking forward to as many quiet nights as possible, you’ll feel a lot better once your home is looking its best. With this guide of cleanup tactics, the process will be much smoother.

spot removal

- Create small goals. When you look at a cleanup process, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Try and relax by creating small objectives and goals and gradually it will all get done. It also helps to have small rewards. You finally took down all your outdoor decorations, now it’s time to treat yourself!

- Organize your home. This is the time to cleanup and get rid of things you don’t need. Create a cleaning system for your home and you’ll find how easy it is to get everything back to its normal place after the holiday season.

- Banish carpet and furniture stains. Spilled a glass of wine? Dropped a holiday dessert? If you didn’t personally commit any of these party fouls, one of your guests might have. Don’t let these stains go unnoticed for too long. Follow our steps on how to remove stains from anywhere in your home.

- Give back to the community. Did you get new gifts for your kitchen or other rooms in your house? That’s great! But, you may not need two or three of those items. Either discard old ones or donate them to people in need in your community.

- Be thankful. Take a moment and be grateful for the beautiful holiday season. The time spent with family, friends, and loved ones, another new year, good health, and so forth. Let your post-holiday cleanup be a lesson of gratitude.

home resolutions

Get Organized
Although cleaning and rearranging is traditionally done in the spring time, there’s no better time than the beginning of a new year to get organized and clean up your space. A messy home has been shown to decrease creativity, productivity, and focus, so start kicking some of your clutter to the curb.

Purify Your Indoor Air Quality
Indoor air quality is one of the top environmental health hazards, according to EPA reports. This problem is the highest in the winter when our windows and doors are shut tight. Maintain your HVAC system, properly ventilate your home, and don’t forget to clean your carpets. While carpets and rugs are beneficial for trapping toxins, they eventually get filled with pollutants and require cleaning.

Budget For Improvements
Creating a yearly budget plan for your home maintenance and repairs will help prevent overspending and allow you to splurge on major replacements and updates in the future. Educate yourself on your finances and prevent your spending from getting out of hand by creating an expenditure plan to follow in the New Year.

Create A Cleaning System
Control the mess in your home by creating a weekly or monthly check-up list. Include your carpet, rug, drapery, and upholstery too! This will help you prevent future damage and expensive repairs. If you notice you need any services or repairs, hire a professional, they can provide you with expert opinions and solutions.
