Decorating With Florals

Have you heard? Floral prints are making a comeback. While you may feel like they only belong on your grandmother's curtains, they’re actually a great addition to your home’s décor. Add a fresh, modern pop of color to your home with these floral decorating tips.

Decorating With Florals | Upholstery Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Accents
If you’re hesitant about adding florals, start off light with a few throw pillows or blankets. Swap out some pictures you’re tired of for a pair of garden-inspired framed botanical prints. These are all easy and low-risk ways to try out the floral trend just in time for spring.

Wallpaper
You can add floral wallpaper to your home without overwhelming your space. Consider an accent wall of paper behind your sofa or your bed. Small prints also look great in bathrooms or kitchens. Bonus? Most wallpaper is more durable than paint, so they’re perfect for areas that can get messy, like the kitchen and dining room.

Rugs
Awaken a room with neutral colors by adding a lively floral palette underfoot. This is a great way to bring florals into your room because you can easily switch rugs in and out. Area rugs in certain rooms, such as the kitchen, should be made with durable materials that can withstand traffic and spills. But be careful, floral prints tend to hide stains, so make sure to keep up with professional cleaning!

Furniture
Take it a step further by adding a piece of furniture with a bold floral print. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your furniture. In fact, layering patterns is a chic way to sophisticate your space, so try matching accent chairs and sofa pillows to tie together a cohesive look.

Common Carpet Terms

When you want to understand something, you have to speak its language. Diving into a “carpet dictionary” may not seem like the most interesting thing, but to get a good deal on carpets it helps to know the basics. Below are common terms used in the industry.

Common Carpet Terms | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

BCF Fiber
BCF (bulked continuous filament) refers to the length of the fibers used to make the carpet. As the name suggests, it’s essentially one long continuous strand of fiber used to make a section of carpet.

Berber
The term berber commonly refers to a style of carpet that’s made of looped fibers. But in technical terms, berber actually refers to carpet that has a fleck of another color running through it.

Natural Fibers
This refers to any fiber that’s not man-made - i.e., synthetic. There are many natural fibers used in carpet including wool, seagrass, sisal, and jute.

Synthetic Fibers
In contrast to the natural fibers discussed above, synthetic fibers are man-made carpet fibers. This includes nylon, polyester, olefin, and triexta.

Saxony
A saxony is a style of carpet characterized by cut fibers of uniform length. This is probably the most iconic carpet style and what may come to mind when you hear broadloom.

Remnant
A remnant is a smaller piece of carpet that is typically the ‘end of the roll.’ Remnants vary in size, usually ranging from about 3 feet up to around 25 feet, but they can be any size. They’re often sold ‘as is,’ meaning they don’t come with a full warranty, but they’re generally offered at discounted prices.

Cleaning Tools Every Home Needs

It’s impossible to tackle any job without the proper tools - the same can be said when it comes to cleaning your home! Make dirt and stains a distant memory with these essential cleaning supplies!

Cleaning Tools Every Home Needs | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Sponges: There are a wide variety of sponges out there. Make sure you have a mix of different kinds; some with an abrasive side and some with a microfiber side so you can tackle just about any dirty surface!

White towels: They’ll always match, you’ll know when they’re dirty, and they can be easily bleached and disinfected without getting ruined. An ecofriendly alternative is to cut up old t-shirts.

Spray bottles: Keep spray bottles on hand if you ever need to rinse something off with water or if you prefer to make your own cleaners.

Rubber gloves: Some chores just can’t be done without protecting your hands. Rubber gloves are particularly helpful when using harsh cleaners that irritate the skin. Sprinkle powder inside the gloves to put them on more easily.

Broom, dustpan, and mop: This may seem obvious, but many homeowners don’t own these important cleaning tools. If you have any hard surfaces like wood, tile, or linoleum, you’ll need a broom and mop to get them clean - the dustpans help with the process. TIP: If you own a broom, store it upside down so that the fibers don’t lose their shape.

Vacuum: Whether it’s a Roomba or a Dyson vacuum, these machines help keep floors clean and allergies at bay. Moreover, some of the vacuum attachments are great for cleaning blinds, walls, and upholstery, as well.

Owning these tools will help when you’re cleaning your home. When you want a little extra assistance, call the textile experts at Triple S! We have the tools and equipment to help you make your carpets and upholstery look Clean, Fresh, & Bright again! We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

Keep Your Pets Off Your Furniture

There’s no better feeling than coming home after a long day, sprawling out on the couch, and relaxing - especially when your pets join in. While they’re undoubtedly another member of your family, they can still wreak havoc on your home and furniture. Some pet owners encourage their four-legged friends to sit beside them, but the professionals at Triple S advise against it.

Keep Your Pets Off Your Furniture | Upholstery Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Why do they love your furniture?
Your pet may not understand that they’re misbehaving when they jump up on the couch. They want to be as close to you as possible. Even when you’re gone, they’re bound to jump on your furniture because they’re lonely and it smells like you. Also, if the piece of furniture is located near a window, it may be even more appealing.

Consistency
As soon as you add a new furry friend to your family, you should decide whether you’ll be allowing them to sit on the furniture or not. Stick to that decision at all times. Consistency is key - if you allow your pets to cuddle up beside you on the couch at some times and not others, they won’t be clear about which rules to follow.

The ‘Off’ Command
This command tells your pet that you want their paws on the floor and not on the furniture. Try setting up their own resting area so they don't feel the need to get comfortable on your couch. Make sure to place it in a central area of the house where your pet won’t be lonely and can still interact with the family.

We’ve cleaned our fair share of carpets and upholstery because of pet disasters. Here’s more tips on how to keep your home clean from your pets as well as our top rated pet stain removal product!

Mix And Match Your Furniture

You don’t have to be an interior designer to decorate your space well. Pick out designs, fabrics, and hues that you love and bring them together with a dash of recklessness. Just make sure to follow these tips while you’re mixing your aesthetics - it’ll help prevent any raised eyebrows.

Mix And Match Your Furniture | Upholstery Cleaning | CT | Triple S |
*It’s easy to mix and match furniture, and come up with a completely unique style for your home. Start with the most important piece first - like a neutral couch or a really unique flea market find, and focus your design style and color palette around it.

Keep colors similar. Using a consistent color scheme helps the room look more cohesive. If you have a traditional armchair, but want to add in a more modern sectional, choose a sofa in the same color family, and you’ll be good to go!

Mind the scale. You don’t want an overstuffed chair sitting next to a dainty loveseat. Similar heights and scales make the combination work, so make sure you’re keeping the scale of all your decor in the same realm.

Balance it out. This applies to style and size as well. Even if items are on completely different ends of the room, create the illusion of equal visual weight. Also, if multiple styles are incorporated strategically throughout the room, it's easier for the eye to accept. Don’t go making one side of the room contemporary and the other half entirely coastal.

Match moods. If your living room is a place to kick back and relax, don’t layer it in overly formal or stuffy furniture. Make all your choices equally informal - with simple lines and soft materials - even if they vary in style.

#4EverTripleSClean: Why We Love Area Rugs And You Should Too

Many homeowners are aware of the aesthetic advantage that rugs can have on the interior design of their home, but there are several other benefits to consider. People have turned to hardwood flooring, tile, or stone surfaces for their durability and ease of cleaning, however, area rugs should not be overlooked.

Why We Love Area Rugs And You Should Too | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Noise Reduction
Do you notice that your room has a slight echo? That's because the hard surface floor doesn’t absorb sound in the same way that carpet does. Area rugs are also quieter to walk on than a hard surfaced floor.

Comfort
Not only are rugs more comfortable to stand on, but it’s softness also gives it flexibility. The area rug will absorb some of the impact of your footstep, which takes some of the pressure off your body.

Warmth
Imagine sliding out of your warm, cozy bed and stepping right onto the cold floor. That thought alone should motivate you to add an area rug or two to any room in your home.

Grounding Aspect
When properly placed, an area rug can help anchor the furniture in a room, which helps create a cozy, intimate space. Additionally, an area rug introduces a sense of calm into a space by slowing down the energy. Fast-flowing energy can create feelings of anxiety and make a space feel somewhat chaotic.

Allergies
For years, those with allergies were advised to remove all carpeting from the home, but area rugs can have a positive effect on allergens. Numerous studies show that carpet traps allergens, thereby keeping them out of the air and creating a better breathing environment for your home.

At Triple S, we offer professional cleaning services, including rug, carpet, upholstery, and tile cleaning. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

#4EverTripleSClean: Carpet Care Myths

It’s time to throw whatever you thought you knew about carpet cleaning out the window. There’s a ton of misconceptions out there and the professionals at Triple S are here to disprove these common carpet care myths to help homeowners achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more attractive carpet.

Carpet Care Myths | Carpet cleaning | CT | Triple S

#1 - My Carpet Is Brand New, So I Don’t Have To Clean It.
No matter how new your carpet is, it needs a proper cleaning! Although you may not be able to see the damage, don’t be under the impression that your carpet isn’t dirty. It’s the soil you can’t see that causes the most damage.

#2 - Commercial Carpet Stain Products Work
There are a number of stain removal products that you should leave on the shelf at the store. Due to the high concentrate of chemicals, these products will not only remove stains, but also remove the color from your carpet. Check out some of our popular stain removal products instead.

#3 - Vacuuming My Carpet Once A Week Is Plenty
Your indoor air collects pollutants including animal hair, dead skin, dust mites, and more. In order to avoid an extreme amount of accumulation in your carpets, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends vacuuming daily. Not only will this improve indoor air quality, but it will also add years on to the life of your carpet.

#4 - My Pet Stained My Carpet So I Have To Get Rid Of It
There may be extreme cases where your carpet has to be discarded. However, most of the time, the stains can be effectively treated with a professional pet odor remover.

#4EverTripleSClean: Caring for Winter Items

The colder months are here to stay - for six more weeks to be exact. As the temperature continues to drop, the content of your wardrobe continues to change. If you haven't already, now is the time to break out those heavier winter coats, snow boots and scarves.

Here are a few more winter item tips and considerations to think about when rolling with the weather.

Caring for Winter Items | Carpet Cleaning | CT | Triple S |

Insect Damage

After a long slumber, your winter clothes will need to be awakened and taken out of storage. Depending on how careful and attentive you were when packing them away, you may have had some unwanted visitors over and will want to check your garments for signs of insect damage.

Insects such as crickets, ants, moths, beetles, and cockroaches tend to feed on clothes that were not cleaned properly before storing. Look for small holes, worn areas, and discolored lines on the portions of the garment that had spills or stains that were never removed.

TIP: The odor from mothballs or crystals is difficult to remove. Try airing the garments by hanging them outside in the shade.

Wardrobe Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning, the first and easiest step to take to ensure the best cleaning is to follow the manufacturer's care label instructions. Many of your garments may be hand or machine washable. Minimize agitation to prevent matting and pilling of napped fabrics.

Festive Stains

Along with the cooler weather, you also are sure to be plagued by unforeseen stains during the many celebrations that occur.

Stains caused by cosmetics, oily foods, and beverages will get best results when pre-treated. Many festive dishes, unfortunately, contain ingredients that are not easily removed using household stain removal techniques and may require solvent-based treatments. Check out some of our products and stain removal tips that can help!

Next time you change over your closet, think about these tips and considerations so you can spend each season getting the most out of your wardrobe.
