How to Get Rid of Odors in Your Home

There’s almost nothing more unpleasant than walking into a home with a foul smell. While many things can contribute to bad odor, humid weather is a likely culprit during the summer. The problem with odors is that they can cling to your walls, furniture, and drapery. As your textile specialists in Connecticut and Westchester County, we’d like to help you prevent and get rid of these bad smells. Here are four tips to consider:

Open the windows.
One of the best ways you can get rid of odors is to crack open your windows for a breath of fresh air. Whether the temperatures outside are hot or cold, letting some natural air inside the house can remove airborne odors that linger.

Clean your air filters. Another effective way to clean the air in your home is to clean the filters in your HVAC system. Not only will this method improve your air quality, but it will also keep your air conditioner functioning properly. Take notice of when your air filters need to be changed.

Repaint the walls.
Sometimes old paint can cause a room to smell funky due to humidity. This is because moisture catches onto your walls and causes potential mold and mildew to grow. Need a solution? Give your walls a fresh, colorful coat.

Vacuum it up. The most efficient way to get rid of odors is to vacuum your carpets and upholstery on a regular basis. However, before you take out the vacuum, you can sprinkle some baking soda onto your rugs, let it sit, and watch it absorb those dirt and oils that stink up your living space.
