How and When Should You Clean Your Bedspreads?

On average, we spend around a third of our lives on our bedding. That’s 56 hours a week of sweat, dead skin cells (and probably drool, too). So how often should we be washing away one of the most used items in our bedroom? And what’s the best way to do so?

Loading the washer
  • Sheets and bedspreads need lot of room to clean, so don't overload with too many items in one cycle.
  • Never wrap sheets around the agitator — they will tear and wrinkle.
  • Wash sheets separately to prevent other items from getting tangled or balled up.

Washer setting
  • Cotton sheets ro spreads are safe on any cycle, but check the label just in case!
  • Select the cycle that fits the soil level of the bedding — normal for light soil, heavy duty for stains and heavy soil.
*Be careful — overwashing sheets causes them to wear out faster.

Water Temperature
  • White and light-colored cotton wash well in any water temperature. When the cooler, flu season arrives, we suggest washing them on a hot/warm cycle to help reduce allergens.
  • Prevent dark-colors from fading by using cool water to wash and rinse.

How often should you wash? To keep dirt, dust, and other allergens at bay, you should clean your bedspreads at least once a week! Unless you spill something, you won't have to clean your comforter.
