Add a deck or patio. If you don’t already have one, this addition will not only be visually appealing, but it’s also perfect for you to host BBQ's or other casual outdoor gatherings.

Refurnish the patio or sunroom. Creating a relaxing space is all about the right furniture. If your budget doesn’t allow for a large sectional, you can bring in wicker or Adirondack chairs. Don’t forget to top it all off with plenty of seasonal pillows and throws.

Layer in greenery. Bring in plants (planters, hanging baskets, flowering vines) and shrubs to enhance the areas look and feel. When planning your design, you should take into consideration your local climate as well as your soil conditions.

Be creative with lighting. Use different types of lighting throughout your backyard. Bright lights are best when you’re cooking,, but accent lamps or ground-based lighting can help when you’re lounging in the yard.
