Why do they love your furniture?
Your pet may not understand that they’re misbehaving when they jump up on the couch. They want to be as close to you as possible. Even when you’re gone, they’re bound to jump on your furniture because they’re lonely and it smells like you. Also, if the piece of furniture is located near a window, it may be even more appealing.
Consistency
As soon as you add a new furry friend to your family, you should decide whether you’ll be allowing them to sit on the furniture or not. Stick to that decision at all times. Consistency is key - if you allow your pets to cuddle up beside you on the couch at some times and not others, they won’t be clear about which rules to follow.
The ‘Off’ Command
This command tells your pet that you want their paws on the floor and not on the furniture. Try setting up their own resting area so they don't feel the need to get comfortable on your couch. Make sure to place it in a central area of the house where your pet won’t be lonely and can still interact with the family.
