#WellnessWednesday Tips for a Healthier Home

If not already underway, spring cleaning routines and maintenance needs are definitely being considered. Are you looking for ways to not only make your home a cleaner one, but a healthier one too?

Triple S, Healthier Homes

We have a few tips that might help:

Wipe down countertops regularly. Countertops harbor a great deal of dirt, dust and bacteria, making them a good place to start. A mild cleaner that can refresh the sealer is best to use.

Vacuum carpets weekly. Since allergens and bacteria get trapped in the fibers, your rugs and carpets can be a major source of health issues and allergies. Vacuuming will help to improve the air quality in your home but a professional should also be contacted for deeper cleanings.

Vacuum upholstered furniture. Just as easy and as important as carpeting, high-traffic furniture should be vacuumed once a week, as well, and cleaned by a professional annually.

Sanitize "high touch" parts of your home. To minimize the spread of germs, use anti-bacterial wipes on surfaces that are touched frequently - including door knobs, toilet handles, faucets and light switches.

Have a door mat or runner at your entryway. Contrary to the popular belief that wood floors make for a healthier home, door mats are actually the perfect way to keep outside germs and allergens at the entryway instead of dragging them through the house.

How to Maintain a Brand New Carpet

A new carpet installation is many things. An exciting and fresh look in your home, for one. To maintain this carpet through various seasons, years, holiday parties and other activities, you'll want to establish a plan of action for your carpet care.

Here's a basic guideline.

Know what kind of action you'll want to take before spills and similar accidents occur. Spot cleaning techniques are effective if performed in a timely manner. Therefore, educating yourself at the time of installation is ideal so you don't have to worry about doing your research when an accident has already happened. Spot removal tips can be found on our website »

Vacuum regularly. For many homeowners, regularly means about once or twice or week. The truth, however, is that you should really vacuum daily. Find a few reasons why in a previous blog post.

You'll want to have your carpets professionally cleaned every year to every year and a half. While regular home maintenance is effective and should be done, you can only achieve a deep clean with professional equipment. Learn more about our on-site services here »

Remember, always treat stains as soon as they occur for a longer-lasting and beautiful carpet!

Winter Maintenance for Your Rug

With the winter season comes a lot of home maintenance needs. Doors and windows are sealed tight, keeping unwanted dust and allergens trapped inside, and furnaces are running at full capacity - sucking up our energy use and blowing those dust particles back through the home.

Triple S, Carpet Cleaning, Winter Carpet Care

To keep one cleaning requirement under control, we're sharing a few important tips for keeping your carpets and rugs maintained this time of year:

Vacuum Regularly: As explained in a previous blog, vacuuming regularly is the most effective way to maintain indoor air quality and maintain your carpets and rugs.

Rotate Your Rugs: Rotating your rugs every month or so is a good idea when it comes to maintaining the consistent quality of your rug. Uneven exposure to sunlight and airflow can give your carpet uneven wear and tear or fade.

Try Carpet Protectant Applicants: Vacuuming can be made even more effective, especially for wool, by applying products recommended by your local carpet cleaner beforehand.

Vow to Vacuum

Do you vow to vacuum a little more this year? Though a sometimes tedious chore and often left for your weekly routine, the experts at Triple S suggest you do so daily. Here's a few reasons why:

  • Your furnishings hold on to dust and contaminants that were previously airborne
  • Frequent vacuuming keeps your textiles clean and improves your indoor air quality
  • Dry soil removal will extend the life of your furnishings and is good for your health

A beating and brushing action on rugs and carpets will give the best results, as it's good for loosening the gritty fiber and damaging soil. Using a broom, on the other hand, is not advised. Vacuums with Hepa filters or central vacuums are best for regular cleaning and always keep in mind that most vacuums come equipped with attachments for cleaning draperies, tapestries and upholstered furnishing.

Need a deep clean that your personal vacuum alone can't do? Call the textile specialists at Triple S! We have three main plant locations:
