5 Ways to Decorate Your Home for Summer

Summer is just a week away! Time to spruce things up in your home by decorating for the warmer season. Here are five home decor solutions you must try:

decorate home for summer

Sheer Curtains
Say hello to summer by swapping out your heavy drapes for sheer curtains instead. Not only do sheers allow more air circulation, but they also look beautiful when flowing in the cross breeze throughout your home.

More Plants
Nothing says summer like a fresh vase of sunflowers or a pot of herbs. Take advantage of the extra daylight and warm temperatures by growing your own produce, such as lemons, and adding a natural aroma.

Botanical Prints
You might still have wool, cable pillow covers and holiday-theme embroidered decor laying around, but now is the perfect time to stow them away for a while. Instead, add botanical printed fabrics, which go well in any space around this time of year. Incorporating botanical prints is one of way of bringing the outdoors inside, and the great part is that you can use them year after year.

Bright Colors

Summer is all about vibrant colors and highlights. So whether it be a throw, a pillowcase, a floral arrangement, or a new paint job, brightening up your space can instantly transform your home into a summer retreat.

Shades
Now that we’re experiencing extra hours of sunlight, control the light in your home by installing energy-efficient shades. At DUC Interiors, a division of Triple S, we offer high-tech, cost-effective solutions, like our 100 Douglas Window Treatments.

How To Match Your Drapes With Your Flooring

So you’re designing a newly remodeled room and everything is almost finished. You’ve laid down flooring, picked out the furniture, and brought it all together with accent pieces. But one thing thing is missing - your drapes of course! Matching these with the style of your room can be a task in itself. Here are a few stylistic tips to complimenting your drapes with your flooring.

Staying Neutral
Colors are very important when it comes to constructing a good image for your room. After all, you wouldn’t pair green with bright purple, right? In this example, remaining neutral is critical to creating a comfy environment for not only you, but your guests as well. Black. brown, beige and white are great neutral colors that not only pair well with most flooring colors, but can help greatly by blocking natural sunlight if needed!

Color Families
Unless you play for the Lakers, pairing highlighter yellow and bright purple probably isn’t the best combination. When it comes to keeping your room aligned with one style, stay with the same color in different shades. For example, dark blue drapes would pair very well with sky blue accents such as an area rug. Keeping this in mind can also assist in finding things to add as a tasteful decoration!

Patterns Are Key
It may not seem like a big deal, but a diamond quilted pattern probably won’t match too well with a floral print. Instead, shoot for things that are in the same family as the other. For example, if you can find striped drapes, pairing them with striped throw pillows can completely change the appearance of the room. It’s exciting to think about how much more inviting your room can be with subtle changes like this!

Area Rug Do's and Dont's

Want to enhance your living area’s design? Choosing the right area rug can make all the difference! But from material to color and even texture, there are plenty of area rugs to choose from. So how do you scope out the perfect selection? Before you start shopping for one, here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

DO choose right size
You don’t want a rug that’s too small nor too large. Think of your furniture as a rule of measurement when shopping for your rug. For example, size up the area rug properly to your furniture by selecting a rug that fits just under the front legs of the sofa. However, there are many other ways to style your rug. Click here to learn about other options.

DO choose furniture before rugs
Not only will choosing your furniture first help you find the right fit, but it will also act as a canvas for the rest of your space, and that includes your rug. You want your textiles to compliment your furniture, so pick the area rug last. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to switch up the rug seasonally if you prefer.

DON'T break the bank
A beautiful rug doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Set a budget for yourself and stick to it- the less money you spend on a rug, the more cash you have to spend on a possible secondary rug or other home decor items that will tie the room together.

DON'T shy away from creativity
When it comes to decorating, don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns. For instance, choose a geometric print rug and an animal print arm chair. Keep the colors complimentary, but that doesn’t mean you need to stay too close inside the lines.

Do you have an area rug at home that you love but needs a little cleaning up? Call the textile experts at Triple S! We are your source for top notch professional cleaning services. Decorating for the Holidays

You know that classic song: “There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays” - especially when you decorate! You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to make your home feel festive. Below are five versatile ways to spruce up your living space for the season:

Decorate the door - Whether you hang up a sign or a holiday wreath, there are plenty of ways to show you're in the holiday spirit. Tip: When you choose neutral, metallic, or bronze colors, you can keep that decoration up way past the holidays!

Customize it - Show your holiday colors by adding some unique decorations, such as a Christmas tree or a Menorah. Customizing your space with these festive symbols is a sure way to get you in the spirit this month and carry on traditions!

Switch up bedding & pillows - Want a simple way to transform your home for the holidays? Swap out your summer and fall accessories for different colors, like red, orange, or even metallic. The warmer the colors, the more you’ll want to stay in and cuddle up, and so will your guests!

Add scented candles - Aside from the aesthetics of your home, the aroma you create can also spruce things up. With a mix of pine and cinnamon, you’ll feel like everyday is a holiday this month upon walking through the front door!

Put down a welcome mat - Welcome friends and family with a front door mat with a festive quote and design. Might we also mention, this is a great way to keep your carpets clean throughout the house.

3 Secrets to Having a Chic Home

Making your home look chic doesn’t have to cost a fortune. All you need are a few simple changes, so consider these three easy tips to create an expensive look on a dime!

Choose the right colors. Stick to a neutral color scheme if you want to create a chic, expensive look. From gray to brown to white, there are plenty of shades you can choose from. Neutral colors look clean and are an excellent way to create a chic, sophisticated-looking home. Plus, you risk the chance of color-clashing. Bonus tip: add splashes of bold colors if you’re going for a more regal design.

Add a little texture. Without texture, a room can feel dull and uninviting. However, purchasing one or two statement pieces can bring more dimension into your home. For example, a sheepskin blanket paired with a leather couch or a wool rug layered on top of a wooden floor can make your living space look like a million bucks, when it really only costed you very little!

Declutter.
When your beautiful home is filled with piles of mail, clothes, and boxes, it can look a bit messy. What you want to do in this case is get rid of all the unnecessary items laying around and make the space look as open as possible. Why? Because negative space says a lot when it comes to creating a chic home. In a sense, it makes your home feel more airy, which makes for a more sophisticated look.

Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Bedroom

Fall is almost here - the perfect time to cozy up your bedroom! Looking for a few easy ways to turn your space into a relaxing retreat? Get inspired by these four ideas:

Go big with a headboard. Want to easily transform your ordinary bedroom into a luxurious, boutique hotel room? All you need is a tall headboard with lots of detail to make your bed the eye-catching focal point of your space! Make sure the fabric is high-quality and has a unique silhouette to it!

Hang chandeliers. Nightstand lamps are a great option for lighting up a room, but hanging tiny, crystal chandeliers on each side of your bed can make your space look even more glamorous and bright. Not to mention, chandeliers can also transform your bedroom from ordinary to extraordinary without breaking the bank!

Add extra throws. There’s almost no better feeling than diving onto a bed covered with extra pillows and throw blankets - so layer them on! Don’t be afraid to mix and match. For example, a paisley patterned duvet looks great with a solid throw and geometrical shaped pillows.

Window Treatments. Bare windows are the best way to attract light. However, adding sheer, flowy window treatments can soften up the look of your bedroom, while still inviting lots of sunlight in! If you’d rather add a little more privacy, opt for linen window treatments that can easily swing open when the autumn air is breezy outside.

Fall Color Trends to Add to Your Home

Fall is the perfect time to cozy-up your home! From chocolate brown to burnt orange, we are falling in love with these rich autumn hues. Here are four colors to look out for and how to incorporate them into your home:

Bronze. Transform your dining area into an elegant retreat by adding bronze hues from top to bottom! Start with a regal, bronze-patterned wallpaper and long draperies. And don’t forget to tie in a touch of warmth by adding a red and orange floral arrangement in the center of your dining table!

Red. Not only does the color red tie your cozy dining room together, but it also makes for an inviting bedroom. Because red hues are especially vibrant, opt for a neutral wall color and place red accents everywhere else. For example, adding a red headboard, a beige and red nightstand, and complimentary window treatments can have your room ready for fall in no time!

Brown. Chocolate brown is another color that makes us feel like cuddling up when the leaves start to fall. So, take this hue to your living area by incorporating light-wood bookshelves, a brown leather couch, and an oriental rug with a blend of light and dark shades. This color works especially well if your home is more on the traditional side.

Pumpkin. We can’t think of a better color to represent the fall season! Adding shades of pumpkin to any space is easy - all you need are splashes of muted orange mixed in with deep brown and gray tones. Pumpkin colored pillows and lanterns are both great ways to create a bedroom oasis!

How to Play Up Your Sofa With Pillows

If you’re looking to turn your ordinary sofa into a chic seat, all you need is a decorative pillow (or a few). For an instant makeover, here are five decorating ideas on how to play up your seating area with throw pillows:

Texture - Ivory and white look beautiful in any room, but when all the shades are similar, you need to mix things up a bit. So, add texture to make your furniture more eye-catching! For example, try mixing silk and velvet together if you want to achieve a luxurious appeal.

Pairing - Want to create clean lines across your furniture? If so, the key is to make your layout symmetrical. You can make symmetry by placing patterned pillows in front of solid ones. One way to get this look is by adding a dark backdrop with a vibrant bohemian design - it will bring your sofa to life without needing to change up your furniture!

Color - Another great way to dress up your sofa is to play with color. Pillows are a fast and easy solution that allows you to explore color without a big commitment. The trick is to create contrast, so if you have a white or beige sofa, add a color combination of slate blue and plum (or other rich, complimentary colors).

Narrative - Make your sofa one-of-a-kind by pairing custom-made throws with other textures and patterns. For example, you can buy custom-made pillows with photos of your pet and place them in front of geometrical prints - the perfect way to cuddle up!

Shapes - By changing up the shape of your pillows, you can transform your ordinary sofa into a unique arrangement! While we love the look of traditional square throws, there are plenty of other shapes out there that can make your sofa more visually appealing. With that being said try swapping your square pillows for round ones instead.

Tips For Choosing the Perfect Sofa

Whether you’re settling into a new home or sprucing up your current living space, finding a new sofa can be an exciting project! When you walk into a store you might think you know exactly what you’re looking for, but seeing the endless options might make you scratch your head. Don’t panic - we’ve got you covered! Consider the following list of tips to help you find the perfect one:

Decide on size. Consider the size of your living room and how much room you want your couch to take up. Decide on the amount of seating you need and whether or not you will be adding additional chairs. Once you’ve come to a decision on the size, you can narrow down your options quite a bit.

Consider functionality. What is your lifestyle like? Do you use your space for watching TV and relaxing? Prefer to use the room for hosting parties? These questions will help you to determine how your sofa will be oriented - what type of layout you want to design.

Choose a proper shape.
Now that you’ve figured out the functionality of your furniture, you can decide on a shape that will best suit that purpose. For example, a simple L-shaped couch is a great option for open areas that need to be divided, while a rounder shape is more suitable for smaller spaces where you want to gather the family together.

Research materials. We all want our furniture to look great, but functionality is essential when it comes to choosing the right couch. Many of us would love to lounge on a plush, suede sofa, but if you have pets, this may not be the best choice for you. With that being said, it’s important to consider which material fits your lifestyle.

Find your style. Finding a couch to suit your personal taste can be tricky, but the key is to go with your instincts. Do you lean towards traditional or contemporary? Do you prefer clean lines or unique edges? Don’t forget to choose a color that reflects your style as well, whether that be a bright hue, a printed pattern, or a neutral tone.

Choosing the perfect sofa is about finding a balance between your personal taste and your lifestyle. If you’re a little nervous about committing to furniture that is out of your comfort zone, you can always opt for a funky ottoman, coffee table, or pillow arrangement.

Once you’ve settled on the right choice for your home, keep it clean by vacuuming often and scheduling a routine professional cleaning.
