How to Get Rid of Dog Smell From Furniture

Your furniture is just as comfortable for your dog as it is for you, but when you invite your four-legged friend to sit on your upholstery don't forget that you’re welcoming dirt too! With summer being a rainy season, your pet is more likely to carry odors inside the house.

If you allow your dog to lay on the couch with you, here are a few cleaning tips to help you keep your furniture smelling fresh:

Dust and vacuum. If your not-so-fresh furniture has removable cushions, take them outside in the backyard and smack them to remove any loose pet dander or fur. Then, vacuum your cushions and the space below them, where you’re most likely to find a build-up of dirt. Don’t forget the arms and legs of your upholstery - fur can accumulate there too!

Deodorizer with baking soda. Baking soda is known to absorb the unpleasant odors in your fridge, so why not try it on your furniture as well? Sprinkling a little baking soda on your upholstery can banish funky dog odors in no time at all. Let it sit overnight for maximum absorbency and vacuum up the powder afterwards.

Use a lint roller. Lint rollers are easily accessible in stores and can get the job done well. These sticky tools helps remove fur and dander that stink up your sofa and chairs. Can’t get a hold of a lint roller? Try wrapping box tape around the outside of your fingers and use that to eliminate fur from the couch.

Spray on repellent.
Sometimes getting rid of all that fur and dander doesn’t necessarily make the odor vanish. If this is the case, then freshen up your furniture using repellent spray - a stain-resistant alternative. You can also opt for adding citrus essential oil into a spray bottle. This works well because dogs don’t love the fragrance, which means they’re more likely to stay away when you need them too.

Choose the Perfect Kitchen Tile

Cooking in the kitchen can make you feel uncomfortable, especially on hot summer days. Imagine how great it would be to feel the cool sensation of tile flooring under your feet. Needless to say, tile flooring has many perks - it’s easy to clean and looks beautiful too. But how do you choose the right one?

If you’re having trouble deciding, here are three primary types of tile to consider:

Porcelain. Made from minerals and sands. This water resistant flooring is a great option for those summer parties where you’re more likely to have a spilling accident. Porcelain is also hard and dense, making it ideal for installation if your kitchen is a high traffic area in the home.

Ceramic.
Made from various types of clay. Ceramic tile is simple to install, but more prone to damage than porcelain. So be wary about dragging chairs or dropping heavy pots and pans on the floor if you’re thinking of investing in ceramic tile.

Stone. Possibly the most expensive type of tile, but also the most durable. This beautiful flooring option requires sealing but once intact, you’ll have a timeless element added to your kitchen.

Play up tile flooring with different shapes and sizes. Squares are a popular shape, but rectangles, hexagons, and octagons can also make a bold statement. Consider the durability, texture, and level of water resistance upon making your decision.

If you’ve already found the perfect kitchen tile for your home make sure to keep them looking clean! Constant foot traffic, the use of cleaners, and even the presence of moisture especially during the warmer seasons take their toll on tile flooring. For a professional cleaning and sealing of these surfaces, call the textile specialists at Triple S.

Evolution of Carpet Cleaning & Repair

From area rugs to wall to wall carpet and back again, find out how carpet cleaning and repair has changed over the years:

Early 1950s- Area rugs were in popular demand and the wealthy would swap those rugs out seasonally. As such, cleaning facilities had to be large enough to store these rugs regardless of the season.

Late 1950s - Wall-to-wall became popular as area rugs started fading out, but since portable equipment for cleaning rugs wasn’t developed yet - cleaners had to rip up carpet and bring it in for cleaning. The downside? This created problems with shrinkage when trying to reinstall the carpet. The solution? Equipment was developed to clean wall-to-wall in place.

1970s - Carpet fibers made a change for the better. Olefin, a synthetic fiber, replaced nylon. Then polyester came into the picture, which could be dyed in various colors. Carpet fiber makers began to warranty the product instead of the carpet mills.

1980s
- With mold becoming a major health concern, it lead popularity back to hardwood floors. Consequently, area rugs became common in homes again.
