Read instructions. Treat all of your upholstery with special care. The type of material your sofa is made of will determine which type of cleaning methods are safe to use (and which ones are not). So be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions before using any product, or test a small, unnoticeable spot to see whether or not a solution is well suited for the fabric.
Regularly clean fabric. Sofas stain easily, especially when they’re not in use. Before taking out any chemicals, remove dust by vacuuming, preferably with the upholstery attachment that comes with your vacuum. If you don’t own a working vacuum, you could also use a soft-bristled cleaning brush to loosen the dust and sweep it off.
Wipe down leather and vinyl. If you own a leather or vinyl sofa, wipe it down with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and stains. This is because vacuums do not work at well on this type of fabric, but you could also sweep with a small, dry broom.
Seal all fabrics. Once you’ve removed dust and stains from your upholstery, be sure to seal it with a ProSeal formula of fluoropolymers and co-polymers. In doing so, you can improve fade resistance, color fastness, and abrasion resistance in addition to resisting common spills.
