Prep Backyard For Cold Weather

The temps are slowly dropping, which means winter is on its merry way! Is your outdoor space ready for the ice and snow? From prepping your lawn to keeping your deck clear, here are the important tasks you’ll need to complete before this season is over:

Sweep
Autumn brings cool weather and lots and lots of leaves. You may also experience a few tropical storms around this time of year, which leads us to this tip: sweeping. Sweep the leaves, sweep the debris, sweep anything that could get stuck under the snow (because we all know what lies ahead). Repeat as needed to keep your deck or patio clear of any obstructions.

Disconnect hoses
Prevent your pipes from freezing by disconnecting your outdoor hose. When you forget to disconnected this hose for winter,  the water that remains within will freeze and almost certainly cause the lining to crack. If you have a control nozzle on your hose and freezing occurs, the ice will put pressure on the pipes connected to the house and result in an entire home plumbing problem. We say be safe and disconnect now.

Trim lawn
Now is your final chance! Make sure you fertilize and mow the lawn before the first freeze of the season. Rake away dead leaves that fall and cut your lawn, leaving just about 2 inches. The last thing you want to do is worry about mold and tall grass popping up through the snow which accumulates on your lawn all winter long.

Store cushions
Protect your outdoor furniture by storing umbrellas, chairs, and patio cushions. Some professional cleaning plants will even pick up your cushions, store, clean, and return to you next season so that bad weather doesn’t get the best of them.

Triple S offers seasonal patio and boat cushion cleaning to keep your outdoor furnishings protected for next spring. Prep Your Backyard for Winter

Winter weather can wreak havoc in your backyard, whether it be your deck, patio, or furniture. It’s important take precaution to make sure nothing gets ruined over the next several months. Below are a few steps to help you prepare:

Clear the deck. Clearing the deck of leaves and debris can help prevent mold and mildew from forming. Use a broom to sweep off the loose debris and then grab a blower to get all the hard-to-sweep leaves and dirt off your deck. It also helps to hose it down before it gets too cold out to do so.

Cover up furniture.
Covering up your large pieces of furniture can protect them from getting ruined from all the precipitation that usually falls in the winter months. This is especially beneficial if you have wood furniture, as rain, snow, and condensation can damage the finish.

Store cushions. Storing your outdoor cushions can help to preserve their color and material. But make sure you store them in your home, as this can leave a trail of dirt inside! Instead, hire a professional to store them. Not only do professional have a warehouse to store them in, but they can clean them as well!

If you need professional outdoor cushion storage and cleaning, turn to the experts at Triple S! We will clean, sanitize, and protect your cushions through the winter months. No longer need to worry cleaning or storing them yourself - we will carefully store them in our dry warehouse and have them ready for pickup or delivery the week you want them in the spring!

How to Make Your Old Deck New Again in 4 Steps

Now that September is in full swing, take a little time during this beautiful weekend to clean up your deck. Below, we’ve put together four steps to help you make sure your outdoor space looks fresh before fall arrives:

Step 1. Sweep up debris. It’s much easier to clear your deck before hosing it down, as water causes everything to stick. So the first thing you want to do is grab a broom and sweep up any dirt or leaves that cover the surface.

Step 2. Water your plants. Once you’ve swept away the debris, grab your garden hose and water the plants and vegetables that surround your deck. When you take care of your plants, you can bring your outdoor space to life again, especially if things are starting to look brown.

Step 3. Tackle stains. Getting rid of stains can be tricky, especially because different decks are built out of different materials. But whether your deck is made of wood or concrete, there are several solutions to help you out. For example, wood brighteners are great for cleaning wood, while all-surface cleaners are ideal for concrete.

Step 4. Wet the surface. After you’ve cleared away debris, watered your landscape, and taken care of stains, you’ll want to give your deck a good washing. Grab a wet mop and some dish soap. Squirt a few drops of soap and scrub the surface well. Lastly, water it down to wash away the soap.

Part of getting your deck ready for fall means making your old and worn deck look brand new! Another part is making sure you store away your summer furniture. If you have outdoor patio cushions that you want to stow away, call Triple S! We will thoroughly clean your cushions and repair or even replace foam if desired. Then, we will store them in a clean, dry warehouse and have them ready for pickup or delivery the week you want them in spring.
