A Pet Friendly Home

Pets offer the most unconditional love we could ask for, but they also make a giant mess (most of the time). And they can’t help it either! From shedding fur to having accidents indoors, our pets can wreak havoc on our furniture and our floors. Don’t panic - instead of getting frustrated with your furry friend, take the opportunity to learn how you can keep your home fur and urine free:

 Vacuum Weekly
Pet hair is noticeable and has a dirty odor. By vacuuming on a weekly basis, you can eliminate the majority of fur and hair and sticks to your furry floors.

Sweep Floors DailyGot a Swiffer at home? If not, now is the time to get one! Hardwood might seem like the best option for pet owners, but if you don’t care for them, pet hair will naturally fly everywhere. So do a quick sweeping job once a day to eliminate hair (and even dirt stains from outside).

Groom Your Pet
Keep your cat or dog clean by doing more than trimming their nails. Give them a friendly bath to eliminate dirt and shedding fur. Your furniture and rugs will last longer if they don’t need to be washed as often and your pets aren’t exposing them to dirt, hair, and odor on the daily. Don’t forget to use a tear-free shampoo!

Establish a Clean Up Area
Picture this: your pet goes outside to “do business”, kicks some dirt up, rolls around, and comes running back into the house. Now imagine how much dirt your furry friend is trailing behind. Before you let them into main areas of the house, clean off their paws and using a wipe at the door (and lay out a mat). You’ll eliminate most of the dirt without it coming inside your home.

Cleaning Tips Every Pet Owner Should Know

Having pets is no reason to get rid of your beautiful carpet! In fact, there are plenty of easy cleaning tips you can use when accidents occur. Here’s how you can keep your home clean and pet-friendly at the same time:

Vacuum it up. Pet hair can cling to many things in your home, especially carpets. If your furry friend sheds often, just grab a roll of masking tape and a vacuum cleaner. While lint rollers are a great solution, wrapping masking tape around an old paint roller can work even better, as it picks up larger accumulations of hair! Once you’re done collecting large clumps, make sure you vacuum. In fact, vacuuming up to at least three times a week can reduce the amount of hair that lingers in your carpet.

Blot stains. No matter how well you train your pet to use a pad or go outside, accidents are bound to happen. Cleaning up the urine stain immediately can give you optimal results and prevent stains from damaging your textile. First, stand on an old terry cloth towel to remove most of the moisture. Then, mix a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent with one cup of water and work it into the stain. Keep in mind, blotting your carpet will work much more efficiently than rubbing it!

Use powders and liquids.
It’s inevitable that your pets will leave even a slight odor in your home, especially if they spend time playing outside. To keep your carpets and upholstery smelling their freshest, try using powdered odor eliminators when fabrics are dry, or even a liquid urine odor eliminator with ingredients like bio-enzymatic that kill bacteria.

Get a professional cleaning.
One of the best ways you can fight stains and odors that your loving pets leave behind is to get a professional cleaning. When you get a thorough cleaning, experts will come right to your door with all the proper equipment. They will remove soil and revive colors to leave fabric clean, fresh, & bright. Can’t beat that!

Stop Dirt at the Door

With summer on the horizon, it’s inevitable that more time will be spent outside, which means we’re likely to carry dirt inside the home. Constantly cleaning the floors can be a nuisance and one less chore we’d all like to check off our to-do list, so cut the mess at the source of the problem - stop dirt at the welcome mat with these four tips:

Keep dirt on the doormat. Don’t take a step forward! Place mats inside and outside the home so you bring less dirt into your home. A mat should be long and wide, just enough so you can walk across with both feet upon entering the house. This allows you and your house guests to scuff mud off your shoes before walking into the living room or the kitchen.

Put a limit on entrances. If you want to reduce the dirt entering your home, limit the number of entrances you use. In other words, use either the front door or the back door, but try not to use both frequently. If one of them has an easier-to-clean floor, make that your main entrance.

Make your house a shoeless zone. To keep hardwood and carpet as clean as possible, politely ask family, friends, and guests to kick off their shoes before entering your home and leave them just inside the door. Adding a decorative basket or painted shelf where people can place their shoes will make this gesture more inviting.

Close your doors. Dirt loves to travel and spread all over your house! It hides in all those corners you wouldn’t even think to look or clean, so keep your doors closed. This includes drawers, wardrobes, and cabinets too. You’ll realize that dirt will stay more out in the open, where you can easily vacuum or sweep it up.

Will you think twice next time before you walk through the door? If your carpets need a deep cleaning from all the dirt your shoes are picking up this season, call the textile specialists at Triple S! We have three main plant locations:
