Top Reasons to Buy Carpet

Nothing beats the soft, sand-like feeling of carpet beneath your toes - not to mention the wide array of textures, colors, and patterns to fit the design and layout of your home. Not only does it look nice in your living space, but it also adds functionality. With that being said, we’ve compiled four of the top reasons you should buy carpet:

Added Warmth. Everyone knows that carpet is great for the cooler seasons. The last thing you want is to feel a cold hardwood textile under your feet. However, people may not realize that carpet is also an ideal option for summer! When you walk around the house in barefeet, you want that same comfort you get during other seasons.

Insulated sound. Not only does carpet keep your house warm, but it also provides sound insulation. By installing carpet in your entertainment space, you can mute the echoes of your surround sound system. The more layers, the better!

Easy replacement. Want flooring that is simple to replace? Opt for modular carpet. Unlike hardwood and tile, modular carpet tile can easily be swapped out for a new one. The beauty of modular carpeting is that if one block gets stained or torn, you don’t have to invest in an entirely new floor. Other durable, stain-resistant options include polyester and nylon.

Allergy relief. While hardwood allows dirt and allergens to go airborne, carpet absorbs it. And even though hard surfaces only require a little sweeping, you would need to clean daily to relieve your allergies. Carpeting, on the other hand, holds in those allergies until you simply vacuum it up.

There you have it - a textile that looks beautiful and functions well in any home. What is an Abrash Rug?

Looking for a new rug that is sure to make your home a one-of-a-kind? Leave it to a hand-knotted rug to spruce up your favorite living space. When you walk into a store, ask for an Abrash rug - an oriental rug color with a truly authentic design.

Here’s why an Abrash rug is a unique choice:

It has different color variations. The term Abrash, from the Arabic word for mottled, is used to indicate color changes that run horizontally across the rug. So a light shade of blue may have hints of darker blue, but these hues will never be the same as another rug.

It has a unique dyeing process. Abrash results from variations of the dyeing process. it’s never a perfect match, which makes each one stands out. Because the weaver runs out of one batch and restarts with another, it results in different shades. How cool is that!

It cleans up well. The true colors of Abrash are easily obstructed by soil, causing it to lose its vibrancy. Luckily, Abrash reacts well to a professional cleaning, bringing back the rich hues. Unlike other rugs, an Abrash rug will look new for years to come!

Factors Affecting Your New Rug Purchase

Finding the perfect rug to decorate your new space can be tricky. From having kids and pets to choosing the right design, there are many factors to consider. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry - we’ve compiled four factors that may influence your new rug purchase, as well as tips to help you make the best choice:

Budget. Make sure to buy the best rug you can afford. Saving up and spending just a little more money on a higher quality area rug, such as wool, can be worth it in the long run! The price range for a new rug is large, so it’s important to go into a store knowing how much you’re willing to spend.

Color & Pattern. A helpful tip is to choose your rug before buying furniture and painting. But what if the room is already furnished? If you find yourself in this scenario, consider balancing color and pattern within the space. Be sure to purchase a rug you will love for years to come.

Material. Select a rug that fits your lifestyle. Will your rug be placed in a high-traffic area? Do you have a dog that sheds often? Go with a durable, easy-to-clean area rug if either of these are the case. Bonus tip: Remember that dark colors and patterns do a good job of camouflaging dirt and stains.

Size. Your new rug purchase should fit the size of your current seating area. Leaving 6-10” extra on either side of the couch will help you prevent it from looking awkward and small. For the dining room, buy a rug that is large enough to fit your chairs when they’re pulled back.

Top 4 Rug Mistakes to Avoid

Rugs are a centerpiece that can either make or break your favorite space. For many homeowners, it can be difficult to find a textile that perfectly fits the layout and design of your room. So how do you make sure you’ve made the right choice?

Here’s four big rug mistakes you don’t want to make when styling your home:

Choosing a small rug. Buying a rug that’s too small will ultimately make your room look smaller. Choose a rug to set boundaries around your furniture and help define an area. Bonus tip: It should be large enough so that front legs of your furniture are on it.

Not layering. Don’t be afraid to layer up on rugs. Try a jute rug, which cleans up nicely if you’re prone to spills and stains. Add a patterned rug over it for a unique, playful effect. You’ll be surprised how neatly your space will tie together!

Skipping the rug pad.
Without a rug pad, you’re bound to slip and slide. Not to mention, it also adds a layer of cushion for your feet - especially beneath a flat woven rug.

Choosing your rug last. Rule of thumb: choose the rug first. It’s sure to grab lots of attention and balance all elements in your room. If you wait until after purchasing accent pillows, you’ll have a difficult time finding the perfect rug.

When you’ve settled on a new rug that suites your home, make sure to keep it looking beautiful! An annual deep cleaning will keep it looking fresh for a long time! Call the cleaning specialists at Triple S! We have three main plant locations:

4 Tips for Choosing an Eco-Friendly Rug

Believe it or not, indoor air pollution can be worse than even the largest industrialized cities! Poor indoor air quality has been linked to health conditions like heart disease and respiratory diseases, which can be problematic if you stay indoors for hours at a time. We know a burning gas stove and smoking tobacco can contribute to indoor air pollution - but did you know your household furnishings also contribute to poor air quality?

That’s why we’re here to help you choose wisely. See below for some tips to keep in mind when shopping for a new rug:

1. Avoid synthetic.
For years, carpets and rugs have been made from petroleum-based synthetic fibers that give off volatile organic compounds (VOC), which include a number of chemicals known to cause health complications.

2. Opt for natural materials.
Choose a  rug made from all natural materials that won’t off-gas those nasty VOCs. Most of these organic materials are biodegradable and recyclable, so they won’t be disposed of forever. Try wool, jute, sisal, sea grass, or even coir (made from coconuts).

3. Look for hidden VOCs.
Once you’re set on an all natural rug, check to see if the material was treated with chemicals or pesticides. Also spot any uses of glue. You want to make sure it’s as chemical free as possible!

4. Check the backing.
While your new rug may be natural, doesn’t mean the backing (or rug mat) is too. Natural latex is a wiser choice than than foam rubber, synthetic latex, or plastic. Any material that doesn’t off-gas chemicals is a good selection.

Once you’ve chosen a new rug that you know will keep your family healthy and looks beautiful, make sure it stays fresh! Call the cleaning specialists at Triple S for a regular cleaning! We are a Clean Trust* certified firm that can help you meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommendations for Indoor Air Quality programs. We have three main plant locations:

Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Home

At Triple S Carpet & Drapery Cleaners we understand that carpet can be costly and regular maintenance is part of the investment. Whether you're looking to add warmth and comfort to your home or protect small children when they slip, fall and crawl, you probably don't know where to begin when it comes to your carpet shopping checkpoints.

Here's a few tips:

Start with style. Depending on whether you are carpeting a high or low-traffic area, one carpet style might be better than another. Plush, for example, is very soft and comfortable but foot prints and vacuum marks will show up easily. Berber, on the other hand, is extremely durable and might be best for a children's bedroom or playroom.

Consider price. Each time you shop ask for pricing of the materials and installation separately. This can help you make the most of your budget.

Choose your provider. A reputable establishment that specializes in carpeting will more likely provide you with a quality carpet than other places or stores. Just like with an HVAC technician or a plumber, the quality of the installation is just as, if not more important than the product itself.

Triple S, Carpet Options

Understand the maintenance needs. Make sure to discuss with your salesperson the upkeep requirements that come with the carpet type you are looking to buy. You may love the look and feel of its beauty now, but if you aren't willing to put time and effort in, it may wear out much quicker than anticipated.

Think about design. Are you looking for this carpet to last through a series of furniture upgrades? Do you want the look and feel of this room to be vibrant or relaxing? Keep all of your intentions and desires in mind when choosing patterns and colors for your carpet or rug.

Are you way past the selection step and have carpets that need a deep cleaning or refresh? Triple S Carpet & Drapery Cleaners has three main plant locations:
