The Easiest Way to Housetrain Your Puppy

Housetraining your puppy can be frustrating. No matter how many newspapers you throw down, your little canine will still have those “uh oh” moments in the beginning. Some dog owners don’t know where to start training - that, or they’re making a few common mistakes. We’re here to set the record straight and make the process a breeze. Here are three ways to housetrain your puppy that you might be ignoring:

Establish a routine
It’s just like training a toddler - there are certain times to eat, sleep, and potty. Your pet needs this type of training as well, because without it, he will have a more narrow concept of time and limitations. Remember: if you puppy is two months old, he can’t hold for more than about two hours. That being said, eating before bedtime makes this all the more difficult. Pick up your puppy’s water and food dish about two to three hours before sleep to reduce the likelihood of potty time during the middle of the night. Your little one will eventually learn that just like humans, there is a time and place for eating.

Create a space
When you can't be there to supervise your puppy, make things easier for both of you by confining him to a space just big enough for him to comfortably stand, lie down, and roll around. For example, use a portion of your bathroom or laundry room, blocked off by child-friendly gates.

Be gentle
Accidents are prone to happen when your puppy is house training. But you can help the situation by interuppting your pup when you catch him in the act and making remarks, like “OUTSIDE!” But rather than punishing your puppy for having an accident, reward him for being good - the times when he does go out.

While you're training, chances are your pet will have accidents. Allow Triple S to help you fix the mess with our professional carpet and upholstery cleaning. We take great pride in the quality of our work and service, backed by our guarantee of 100% Satisfaction or your money back!

Removing Pet Urine Stains from Your Carpet

You can’t get enough of your loving cats and dogs, but as for accidents - well, we can certainly do without those! Not only does your pet’s urine stink up a room - it also stains your carpet. That is, unless you clean it quickly enough! Here are a few tips to help you catch those urine stains before they soak up:

Step 1: Mix 1 teaspoonful of white neutral detergent (a mild liquid dishwashing detergent containing no strong alkalies or bleaches) with 1 cup of lukewarm water.

Step 2: Blend 1 tablespoon of household ammonia with ½ cup of water. Blot until no more urine is removed.

Step 3: Neutralize by mixing ⅓ cup of white household vinegar with ⅔ cup of water.

Step 4: Blot up any remaining moisture by pressing or padding the area with the absorbent white towel and weigh it down. Allow to dry for 6 hours.

While cleaning up pet messes, remember the following key tips:

  • Test your spotting solution in an inconspicuous area
  • Urine stains may cause permanent dye removal from fibers
  • Avoid mixing ammonia and bleach during your clean-up operation
  • Always blot from the outer corner of the stain, inwards
  • For further help, you can find a IICRC certified carpet cleaner in your area b visiting www.iicrc.org.

Keeping Home Clean from Pets

We can’t help but forgive our four legged friends when they make a mess in the home. But at the end of the day, those accidents need to be cleaned up one way or another. Below are a few tips to not only help you wipe up the mess from an incident, but also help you prevent one:

Place food properly - A common solution to keep your home clean from pets is to set up their food and water dishes on tile or hardwood flooring. If an accidental spill occurs on carpet, it can be tricky to wipe up. Not to mention, they can leave many crumbs behind if they have a habit of feasting on the living room rug.

Clean Instantly
- It’s crucial to immediately clean up accidents as soon as they occur. Not only do accidents smell foul, but they can also leave a permanent stain behind - one that can easily be avoided. If you have a kitten or puppy at home alone and are hesitant that they could have an accident, try creating a playpen for them in the kitchen, as tile and wood is often easier to clean up.

Replace pet furniture - Replace cat and dog beds often or as soon as you notice a visible and permanent stain. You can also try these expert spot removal tips. But if your bed is over old or is torn up, consider replacing it immediately.

Professional cleaning - Choose in-plant cleaning for all your rugs that either have tough-to-reach stains or need freshening up. Not only will your carpet smell clean afterwards, but all of your carpet’s deep fibers will also be rinsed and cleaned. The same goes for your upholstery as well!

At Triple S, we offer several cleaning services to restore your carpets, drapes, and upholstery once more! We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright no matter how messy your furry friends might be!

How to Clean Up All Your Pet Messes

As much as we love our pets, we can’t help but cringe when we find clumps of fur or smell odor on the couch or carpet. But don’t panic - we’re here to help! Below is a list of easy ways you can clean up those annoying pet messes in your home:

Pick up fur. Use a damp rubber glove to grab that fur that your pet leaves behind after his nap. If you use a glove that’s damp, you can easily pick up loose hairs in just seconds. However, if the shedding is excessive, your best bet is the suck it up with a vacuum.

Clean up paw prints. Paw prints can get muddy, but try to resist the urge to wipe them up when you see them. Why? Becuase Cleaning them when they’re still wet won’t help. Instead, let these muddy spots dry and then vacuum them up - you’ll be left with clean, fresh carpets!

Get rid of urine stains.
Accidents happen. If you spot one, simply mix 1 cup of water and ⅛ tsp of dish soap. Then, blot the stain with a clean cloth by blotting (avoid wiping it). Lastly, wash away the soap by dabbing it with 1 tbsp of white vinegar and 1 cup of water.

Fight stinky furniture. While vacuuming up fur can keep your upholstery clean, smells are a different story. To get rid of odors on your furniture, give Triple S a call for a professional cleaning! We will not only get rid of pet fur and dander, but we will also make sure the stink is gone for good.
