#HarvestCleaning: The Aftermath

We hope you all had a fun and festive Thanksgiving weekend! While we’re sure you couldn’t get enough of the sweet potatoes and turkey, chances are you had an accidental spill of some sort. Here are a few expert tips to spot removal steps  you eliminate the mess:

Step 1: Apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent or alcohol. You can find these items your local grocery store. Use a small amount to prevent damage to sizing or stuffing materials. Be wary of flammables.

Step 2:
Mix one teaspoon white neutral detergent with one cup water. This is a mild liquid dishwashing detergent without the strong alkalies or bleaches.

Step 3: Mix one tablespoon household ammonia with a half cup water.

Step 4: Mix one-third cup white household vinegar with two-thirds cup water.

Step 5: Mix a solution of powdered enzyme laundry detergent following label or box instructions. Let the solution remain on the stain as recommended by the manufacturer.

For fruit and juices, follow steps 2, 3, 4, 5
For oils, follow steps 1, 2, 3, 4
For wine follow steps 2, 4 , 3

#HarvestCleaning: Reasons to Be Thankful For an Organized Home

Thanksgiving is just a day away - time to kickstart the holiday season! While we’re thankful for many things, we’re most thankful that we get to help people keep their homes clean. When it comes to a clean and organized home, there are many reasons to be grateful. When you keep your home organized, you’ll realize these are the reasons you have to be thankful:

Find what you need
From your favorite holiday sweater to decorations, the more organized your home is, the easier it will be to pull everything out around the holiday season. In a messy household, it can take hours trying to find those items you need around this time of year, but when you take steps to make your home more organized, your life becomes a little easier.

Make dinners easier

The more space you make in your kitchen, the easier cooking will be - especially around the holidays. Picture you’re getting ready for your annual dinner and the pantry is cramp, the countertops are crowded, and the drawers are filled to the rim. Make cooking lighter by emptying out what you don’t need and what’s expired.

Be a great host

What more could your guests ask for than a well-organized gathering with family? When you have an organized home, you will make your guests feel more welcomed. The more invited they feel, the happier the occasion and the more at ease you will feel when hosting your next gathering.

#HarvestCleaning: Prepping the Dinner Table

Starting to get your house decorated and set for Thanksgiving? When it comes to setting the table, there are a few ideas that can transform your dining area and get your friends and family in the holiday spirit:

 Color palette
Choose a color scheme as a starting point for your thanksgiving table. Chocolate brown or crisp white are two perfect palettes to start with that compliment some rooms but might not work for others. Play off of the colors you already have and find a warm palette to kickstart the holiday season!

Personalized seating
Create customized place cards with each guest’s name and tie them to mini pumpkins for a personal touch. It will spruce up the table and make your guests feel special.

Fall florals
Arrange a floral centerpiece this Thanksgiving that includes berries, mini pumpkins, and other warm-colored flowers like yellow, orange, and red.

Simple setting
Your Thanksgiving table doesn’t have to be over-the-top. Instead, pair a few subtle elements with a neutral-colored dish set that is simple yet elegant. For example, add red napkins to compliment your floral arrangement, and place gold wine glasses on the table. Add a neutral-colored running across the table and you’re set!

Add ribbon
This is one thing you can keep around all holiday season - large bows tied around each chair. It puts that final touch to the whole look and makes the room feel special.

#HarvestCleaning: 10 Easy Thanksgiving Decorations

Thanksgiving is just a week away, which means it’s time to decorate! Get festive for the holiday easily with these 10 simple, creative ideas:

Message board: We just love the idea of a message board to let your family write about what they are grateful for this year. Cut out colorful leaves and let your little ones write messages. Use thumb tacks to stick them on.

Candleholders:
Swap out traditional candleholders for small plumbings and gourds. They will look expensive but are one of a kind!

Cornucopia: This is a must! Fill a cornucopia with small pumpkins and gourds as a dining room table centerpiece. The look will have your guests talking!

Harvest mantel: Decorate your mantel with harvest decor, such as pumpkins, festive plates, and small chalkboard for inspirational quotes.

Bottle display: Use clear bottles and fill them with seasonal berries. Place them on the window sill, a shelf, or table.

Feathered turkey: Create a feathered turkey glued together with scraps of colorful paper and write the things you are thankful for.

Harvest wreath: Don’t wait for Christmas to come around! Hang a “give thanks” wreath on your door to welcome guests on Thursday.

Thanksgiving card tray: Another way to show thanks this harvest season is to lay out little cards on a silver tray and let guests create their own sayings and designs.

Autumn stuffings: Stuff glass containers with beans, nuts, and other fall hues. Place on a copper tray for a metallic touch of sophistication.

Floral bucket: Add a colorful, seasonal arrangement to your table by placing a mix of deep-toned carnations, juniper branches, and plum-colored lilies.

#HarvestCleaning: Tidy Up Your Kitchen in 1-2-3

Cleaning the kitchen can be a hassle. But when you’re pressed for time with Thanksgiving around the corner, there’s only so much you can do. This weekend, use these 3 easy steps to tidy things up and make more room for your holiday feast:

Start top to bottom
The rules of cleaning are simple: start top to bottom. When you clean your cabinets and countertops, you’re likely to get the floor more dirty, so don’t waste time cleaning the floor first.

Clean your tile
When cleaning kitchen countertops and backsplash, use a streak-free cleaner to scrub the floors. At Triple S, we offer several pH neutral cleaners for all types of natural stone, tile, and grout surfaces. You can even use this on your shower walls as an additional holiday cleaning aid! No harsh chemicals or smell!

Empty the  pantry and fridge
The third thing you want to do to prepare your home for Thanksgiving is make room for more food and groceries. Empty out your pantry and fridge by tossing away what’s expired and what you don’t eat. If it’s been there a while, you don’t need it. If it’s canned food, you can donate to your local food shelter to feed the homeless this holiday.

At Triple S, we offer professional cleaning services, including rug, carpet, upholstery, and tile cleaning to help you get your home ready for Thanksgiving. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience and are here to help you keep your home looking and feeling Clean, Fresh, & Bright!

#HarvestCleaning: Rearranging Furniture for Your Thanksgiving Party

When we think about Thanksgiving, we associate it with large family gatherings and small spaces. Even those with small spaces can make room for a party. All it takes is a little rearranging and strategizing. To give you a few ideas on how you can create ample space in your home, here is how you can start:

Move non-essentials
Have an extra table that won’t be used? Push it to another room temporarily to allow more room for guests have more space for socializing.

Create conversation areas

After you move the non-essential furniture, you have more space to create conversation areas. Split up the room with separate sections for small conversations. Turn chairs and couches towards each other or create a circle. This will make the space more inviting.

Turn the dining table

When you add a leaf or additional table in the dining room there oftentimes isn’t enough room. But if you turn the table on an angle, you’ll have more room for your friends and family. You can fit up to an additional 5 feet!

#HarvestCleaning: Easy Ways to Stay Dust Free

Just when you think you’ve solved your dust dilemma, it comes back to haunt you. And when the holidays come around, the last thing you want is to feel embarrassed by the dirt in your home. No sweat! Here are some of the most creative ways you can create a dust-free environment.

 1. Lay out doormats. First things first. Dirt particles are a huge part of dust, so you want to stop dirt from coming through the door. Set up doormats both outside and inside every door. Ask your guests to kindly take off their shoes.

2. Groom pets regularly. Dead skin cells are another major source of dust, and unfortunately our furry companions don’t help. But if you groom them often, it can minimize a great deal of that dust. The same goes for kittens - they can clean for themselves, but their litter boxes can’t!

3. Go for carpet. Contrary to popular belief, carpet doesn’t create more dust - it just holds it in more. Hardwood makes dust go airborne, especially once you open the windows for fresh air (we know you might be doing that this holiday season). We’re not saying you need to purchase a carpet right now, but it’s something to think about. Plus, a few rugs might help.

4. Wash your sheets often. Talk about dust mites! Use a mild detergent to wash your sheets and pillows once a week to stay dust-free. Then dry and fluff them. You can also choose to take them out for dry cleaning - make sure to read labels.

5. Don’t forget upholstery. Yes, upholstery can hold a lot of dust too. Vacuums weren’t only make for carpets - take it to your upholstery and window treatments too! Better yet, schedule a professional cleaning.

If vacuuming doesn’t help your dusty situation, turn to Triple S! We have the necessary training and experience to safely and effectively clean your rugs, carpet, upholstery, and window treatments. We are a family owned business with over 50 years of experience.

#HarvestCleaning: 5 Steps to a Spotless Carpet

Harvest season is here! All the more reason to gather some lists on how you can prepare for your Thanksgiving gathering and how you can clean up the mess afterwards. As our way of saying thanks to our customers, here are 5 easy steps to get rid of those food and drink stains.

 Find green cleaner
The best kind of cleaner is one that is eco-friendly and has not been tested on animals. If you’re looking for a DIY, vinegar, detergent, and water is a great solution that can get rid of those holiday stains - everything from cranberry and gravy to wine and coffee.

Test product
You want to pre-test your solution before you pour the solution on the entire stain. Put a few drops of formula on each color in the textile and, using your white-absorbent material, hold it against each color, count to ten, then examine the results. If the dye has bled into the absorbent material, or if there has been a change in the colored area, call a professional ASCR member cleaner for advice.

Work on stain inward
Avoid leaving a ring on your furniture or rugs by working from the outer edge toward the center of the stain. Bonus tip: blot frequently as opposed to rubbing or brushing.

Let dry
This is the step where you need to have a little patience. Some stains respond slowly and that’s OK - let the solution do its magic. If once it’s dry, you don’t see the desired results, contact a textile specialist.

Call pro
Some stains are just too big or difficult to remove on your own. That’s where the help of a professional comes in handy.
